Kay-o

It's been a year, but I feel like playing RS for a bit. I've still got it installed so I just open up the installed and hit launch. I set up a nice little 1v1 game (it's been awhile, I want to start slow :p) after picking my side, Allied legion, I hit start and the loading screen comes up.

About 6 minutes later, the game finally starts.

Now, I KNOW it shouldn't take that long, since I used to play RS on a 7 year old machine, and it loaded in about 30 seconds. the only difference i can see is that I'm playing RA2 through the first decade now.

So my question is this: Is it common for Yuri's revenge running from The First Decade to load maps unbelievably slow? if so, how can I fix this?

Thanks in advance.

I was playing on TFD version as well as normal, and on both I had almost the same loading times...
So I think it isn't because of The First Decade, perhaps it's something with your hardware or soft :p

If you can, copy the disc to disc-image ISO and mount it with alcohol or daemon tools. Also copy all the mix files to your RA2 dir. That should lessen load times. It's not his hardware - a newer, more powerful rig should eat YR for breakfast, since he said he ran it on a 7-year-old machine previously...

Give that a try, see if it works. :)

Yeah using ISO of RA2/YR CD with daemon tools helps alot and no need for no-cd if do the iso right (safedisc2/3 mode) and like Ash also said..copy the music and other mix files from root of CDs to your ra2 dir, makes it work faster. :)

Get this Unofficial TFD 1.03 patch if you havent already... means you dont need the disc (Because TFD has everything on the HD already).

But all the games listed as "Do not need CD to play" already work without the disc...

Anyway, thanks guys, I'll try it as soon as I can.

Gah, I had to redownload RS for some reason, and now when i do, my antivirus goes crazy for some reason.

Anyway, I tried playing mental omega instead, but the loading times are still too long.

Is it because the mod launchers are installing everything in the wrong place (I'm using TFD) so when loading the harddrive has to continually scan for the different files?

EDIT: Dam, It's affecting regular YR as well

You are using compatibility setting on the game exes or not?

funnily i once put wav in my ra2 folder that was mp3 as test...had riff header...man it slowed down game start-up to like ages. :good:

besides i think MO runs even slower but then 1.99 isn't optimized either so... :p

No, it's because you're using AVG free, which registers it as a false positive.

And the mod launchers don't install things in wrong place...my YR is installed in F: drive and it finds it ok...it just hunts for a specific set of files and puts in the same directory as them.

Yeah, I realised how stupid the "wrong place" idea was after I posted it.

I'll just play other RTS's for awhile.
