Not an authority, but I would imagine so. Seeing as Zhar can quite happily teleport, dematerialise and fly probably at the same time it doesn't seem to much of a stretch for Varin, or indeed any other powerful mage, to have some similar powers. Here's a cool thought; he could sort of melt into his own shadow and then come up out of any other shadow anywhere... Just throwing that out there :umad:
Of course I don't look busy; I did it right the first time.

Though just simply popping out of a shadow behind some guy sounds quite fun and tactically spoken superior to other tactics, it would make the mage a bit overpowered :umad:

The melting with shadow was one of the first steps to achieve this transportation-state, yes :p

I think that would be a Varin-only skill that he developed himself, because if everyone knew how to do that we'd all be dead already. And it could only work at short distances, sort of thing. Maybe only to shadows that you could see from where you were before you evaporated? But yes, Varin, as a powerful mage, can travel around reasonably freely. The only real restrictions on magic in Arsencia are your own abilities and practicalities, and that it is tiring to constantly use magic or do anything particularly powerful.

okay, thanks :umad:
I think this would make Varin already a bit overpowered on one side at the moment. I've got a tiny storyline ready, which I will start in the next post.

I'd like to point out that none of the Death Eaters can actually fly unaided. :umad: In fact, in the seventh novel, Rowling stressed the impressive fact that Lord Voldemort, being an extraordinarily powerful wizard and knowing obscure magic, could fly, which normal wizards and even Dumbledore could not do. Death Eaters flying was just another one of the fabrications of the makers of the Harry Potter movies. The best thing about those movies is that, as they do not even remotely resemble the books, save for the names of characters and British accents, they can be watched in the same brain-dead manner as other pop-culture motion pictures.

I'd like to point out that I liked the film, especially because the storyline was more important than the effects, which is very rare these days.
The effects gave me the idea, though.

Zhar flys, goes into a 'wraith-form' which is kind of like a ghost/shadow thing, and yeah he also just teleports normally.

Although maybe in the interest of keeping magic balanced maybe long range teleportation and stuff should be an advanced magic, that only a few of the more powerful mages know.

Speaking of which, it might be interesting to run into some powerful mages and see a bit of the 'magic societies' of arsencia.
(i get this image of tracking down some old grey bearded wizard type, seeking his help or something, who seems willing to help he he sees zhar and then promptly decides that friends of zhars are no friends of his, and that he won't help ones with company such as Zhar. Or Zhar insulting him or something. Either way it being evident that the two know, or know of, each other.)

There could be a number of great and legendary mages, masters of specific kinds of magic. Also maybe seeing stuff like references to Zhar, for example him being a legend of sorts, for example of what evolved from the 'school of dark magic' zhar originally learnt magic from.... I'm going off topic

as long as it is magic, it's not off-topic.

I think I can do some of that. After all, Varin will return to the school where he started. It's easy to go on after that.

Actually, I was fully planning to include an order of mages in the next chapter. At least one, potentially more.

Heh, the Harry Potter films are to storylines what Hitler was to Judaism. If you had watched the films without reading the books, would you have understood one iota of what was going on? Especially with regards to film number 5.

I try to keep the films as distant from me as possible, as they are both abominations of the books and of film making.

Order of Mages versus Arap Datrebil?

Heh, that could be interesting. But no, I have something else in mind. Maybe the two can come at the same time. It'll provide some hilarious consequences while cataclysmic events take place elsewhere.

Just a basic question, do I need to post a character request for Azuvas?
