Correct. Some films are absolutely pieces of shit. However, there are people who like shit :glare:

Shouldn't this topic be renamed "Star Wars Discussion"? :p

No. For example, I started this topic with "His Dark Materials"
Now I'm telling people who liked it (or at least the first one) to also get "Lyra's Oxford" and especially "Once Upon a time in the North" by the same author :p

How about Dark Lord of Derkholm? Obviously one of my favorite books... since it's in my sig.

I also highly recommend Epic by Connor Kostick.

Really? I think I remember not likely Oxford much when I read it...

Lyra's Oxford is indeed not very long and only vaguely interesting. As a fan, of course, you have to read everything though.
Once upon a time in the North is good though.

Hey, if you ever want a look around the real Oxford, give me a shout. The outskirts are kinda manky, but the centre's beautiful, and I pretty much know it like the back of my hand. I haven't read Philip Pullman's description of fake Oxford, though, nor do I intend to. As I see it, that series has decreased in quality more or less since day one.

Just read a series a friend lent me recently called "Tales of the Otori". Pretty good, but then I like things most others find pretty bad, so, don't go by what I say. Also set in a fictional medieval Japan.

Personally, I'd like to go to both New Zealand and England, to tell the truth.

I just finished The Wind-up Bird Chronicle by Haruki Murakami.

Surreal and amazing, I recommend him.

I'm afraid not. It's quantum fetish mechanics, also known as Rule 34. If you can think of it, people jerk off to it, therefore somebody likes it.

I saw somebody reading that on the bus today...

Anybody read Bernard Cornwell? You know, Sharpe's stuff and his myriad set of other historical fictions.

I really don't do requests and my Arnor Soldier is not fit for BFME. Don't ask me for either.

"Sean Bean. He was Sharpe." (If you've never watched the audio-commentary on the LotR films you won't understand that.) Yes, yes I have read some of the Sharpe stuff. Not too shabby. I've also got one about the Saxons, but I can't remember what it's called and I haven't read it yet. I tried and it just didn't grab me so I gave up.

I went through a phase of non-stop Stephen King, followed by some James Herbert. Gotta love "Misery", "The Stand" and "Needful Things" :p

I'm currently going through various bits of The Poetic Edda. It's a collection of Norse poetry, translated into almost-modern English (it's still a bit funny, but luckily for me I didn't have a problem with Chaucer, so this is nothing. I think a developing understanding and knowledge of old Norse and Anglo-Saxon helps. :p) I'll be moving on to The Prose Edda after I'm done here. I'm also part of the way through Homer's Odyssey, the original epic poem. It's nice to sound so much classier than everyone else. ;) Stephen King indeed....
