Correction: old Pokémon rocks. Red and Blue, that's where it's at. The remakes of those were pretty good, too, but you really don't need any more than 150 pokémon. After that it just got kinda ridiculous.

The Silver/Gold era weren't too bad. But yes; 150 was the ideal. Each had its own characteristics and strengths and weaknesses that were completely different from all the others. I've still got my Blue and my Silver. Now it seems they just sprinkle paint onto a piece of paper, refine it to a sprite, and then make up a name for it.

Silver and Gold had a few good new pokémon ideas, but they also had several reworkings of original pokémon once they started running out of ideas. Everything since then has been, as you say, luck and guesswork at what might constitute something they hadn't already invented. They really have ruined the franchise. If only it weren't so damn playable...

Red/Blue was the best, but I really enjoyed the new features of Gold/Silver. And Lugia

Crystal was the best IMO, it had a few advances over Gold/Silver that I liked such as telling you which route you were on. The burnt tower was also actually burnt down. :p I always had Yellow as well, rather than Blue or Red, which was pretty cool.

I've enjoyed them all immensely, actually :p except for Diamond and Pearl.. the new Pokemon just look ridiculous. But I absolutely love Ruby and Sapphire; how "in tune" the environment is, all that jazz :p

I think most people are talking about the console games (Gameboy/GBA), not the card games. I still like the games, they're a good time sink, and although there are way too many Pokemon, they have added some neat new ideas.

Well, when it comes to writing an expository essay about counter-insurgent tactics, I'm of the old school. First you tell them how you're going to kill them. Then you kill them. Then you tell them how you just killed them.

Red and blue were almost at the centre of my childhood as I was growing up. I took my Gameboy everywhere and played it everywhere. I almost collected all 150 pokemon on blue. Hundreds of hours of work put into it, until my uncle decided to start a new game and wiped it clean.
To say I had a tantrum is an understatement...The yellow version was good as well.

I never owned a gold or silver, but after my blue got wiped out I lost my interest in the games, (this was when I was about 11) but was still an avid collector of the cards. I still have them. All original 150 plus many many different varieties of the same pokemon (Team rocket, fossil, jungle, promo etc). I don't think I could ever part with them, even though they are almost worthless and I don't collect them any more. Too much of a sentimental value…

Then my interest was rekindled when ruby and sapphire came out. I spent many hours on those bad boys. To be honest, I only stopped playing when I was about 14/15...

Don't know about the really new decks, but terrorist nuke was about as prophetic as the card Pentagon where you can see the Pentagon on fire. :)
As far as i know SJG, they wouldn't have taken out the 'offensive' cards. On the contrary, after being raided by the Secret Service for supposedly promoting financial hacking (they where about the sell the roleplaying supplement 'CyberPunk' for the GURPS line) and almost ruined for a time, i think they only have the finger for U.S. Government Agencies. ;)

*Breaks out into a sweat*... oh boy...

I loved Pokémon, especially Cloyster! One of the few I really got each time I played the game (Red/Silver/Crystal). He was wonderful :cool2: Him and Xatu in Silver/Crystal. Of course, I had to like Shuppet and Banette, my Revora name dictates it. I got Saphire because I liked the smooth gameplay, but the Pokémon sucked. Hmm... I kinda wish I'd bough Fire Red. Then I could have Cloyster in rich colours! :p
