Normally I don't run for frontend code help but I'm stumped on this one. Against my usual patterns, I'm using DIVs for my layout instead of tables so it's making one portion a huge bitch to complete properly.

I have a floated unordered list but it won't fill the DIV so it expands properly. I've tried clearing the content DIV below it so it won't overlap but no such luck.

Attached is a shot of the problem. The fucked part is that IE displays it fine but FF is niggling with stupid issues. Some help would be appreciated.

Set the container div to overflow: auto;

Believe it or not, IE handles that incorrectly. Firefox implements floats how they were intended to work. I suggest you read up on clearing and containing floats. Other than floating the parent of the floated element(s) too, which isn't always a good option, the PIE/Aslett approach is best.

Or avoid floats altogether. My job requires floatless CSS layouts, but I do do free consultations.

I do try to avoid floats but the particular menu script I was using was retarded unless I used a float on the list. I hate floats for this very reason.

Floats aren't that bad once you really understand them, but until you do they can be quite confusing.

My job requires floatless CSS layouts, but I do do free consultations.

Any particular reason?

So you use lots of absolute positioning? Or do you use some <table> elements?

No tables, just very careful margins. If you can do it cleanly and simply, and it work in everything, no reason not to use it. And they'd probably find it harder to justify my pay check if the job was easy :)
