The last post thing shows "protected forum" if the last post is in the staff forum. I don't like this because if I post something public, and then post something in the private forum, it'll say "protected forum" on the right, so someone just looking up and down the forum index will think, "oh, its just a post in their staff forum, there's nothing new there." and so they won't look.

Is there any way around this?

If all the mod staff forums were set to be hidden except to certain members then standard members wouldn't see them. But there's bound to be a downside to this.

I've always said about staff forums having this effect. It's why i always recormend agenst them.

If we did Daz's methord there would be alot of people able to see the hosted forum. If we made another usergroup that could only see project staff forums then people from 1 project would be able to look into another projects forum. Both these ways would require alot of Admin time to add the users to the groups.

1 way of solving this problem is to have 2+ subforums like in GenDev, where there are only sub-forums and not a topics section. This would still show the protected forum, but people would view the forum more.

another way of solving the problem would be to have more posts in the main forum than the sub-forum. As you're still in development this is not likely to happen.

the final way would be to have a new catagory called 'locked forums', in this catagory would be everyones hidden forums. It would be alot less orginised, but then the public forums would be alot easyer to find new topics.
