All right, I really hate to do this but... Wikipedia.

That said, I'm still going to summarize it.

Redwall is the epic tale about a novice named Matthias in the monastic mouse order of Redwall Abbey. When his home is attacked by the evil rat Cluny the Scourge, he embarks on a quest to retrieve the legendary sword of Martin the Warrior. A family of woodlanders is kidnapped, and Matthias rescues them with the help of the camoflauge expert Basil Stag Hare. Matthias and his companion Brother Methuselah solve many riddles that the enigmatic Martin left behind, and eventually discover that the sword is on the weather vane. As they solve these riddles, a rat sneaks into the Abbey and steals the precious tapestry of Martin the Warrior, demoralizing the defenders. To further the complications, when Jess the Squirrel attempts to retrieve the sword, they discover that it had been abducted by the warlike Sparra king Bloodfeather many years ago, and is now in the claws of King Bull Sparra. During the Sparra's attack on Jess as she attempts to climb down, Bull Sparra's niece Warbeak is shot out of the air with a wound in the leg. Matthias forces her to bring him to the Sparra court, and on the way up they forge a bond of friendship. However, the sword is not there; Warbeak's mother Dunwing tells Matthias that it is the posession of the deadly adder Asmodeous. Warbeak and Dunwing help Matthias to escape from the court bearing Martin's belt and scabbard, but he is attacked by King Bull and both fall off of the roof of the Abbey. Matthias is presumed dead, but when the body of King Bull is found in the Abbey pond Matthias is found unconscious close by. When he wakes up he learns that Basil and Jess stole the tapestry back, but also that Methuselah was killed by Cluny's spy Chickenhound. Matthias departs into the woodlands, seeking out the mighty owl Captain Snow upon the advice of Basil. Meanwhile, Cluny lays siege to Redwall, but his plots are foiled by the defenders when his siege tower burns and his tunnel under the southwest wall is collapsed by mole experts. Matthias reaches the lair of Asmodeous with the help of the Guosim shrews and the gentle cat Squire Julian, and slays the serpent with Martin's ancient sword. However, Warbeak comes to inform him that Cluny has taken Redwall by blackmailing the dormouse Plumpen to open the gates. Matthias returns to Redwall at the head of an army of Guosim and Sparra and retakes the Abbey, killing Cluny in single combat. Captain Snow and Squire Julian cut off the escape of the vermin horde, and victory is Redwall's. However, it comes at a steep price: Abbot Mortimer dies from the poisoned wound given to him by Cluny. In his last moments, he appoints Matthias as the Warrior of Redwall, and peace returns to Mossflower Wood.
