With magic: Gandalf
Without magic: Glorfindel

Ofcourse, it also depends on Gandalf, is he the Grey or the White?

Actually I didn't say Gandalf the White, but yeah I did mean that one. Also, Glorfindel died that way as well.

No fuel left for the pilgrims

I would say Glorfindel, although if Gandalf didn't have the restriction, he would win easily.

Does Gandalf have the Ring of Fire?

If so I'd say Gandalf, based on FOTR. Gandalf manages to hold his own against the 5 Nazgul on Weathertop, whereas Glorfindel needs to have Aragorn and the hobbits support him with fire and such to drive the Nazgul away.

I have to say Gandalf. He was amongst the most powerful of the Maiar in his most pure state, and he was returned as Gandalf the White in a more powerful state than Galadriel, the most powerful living Elf.

I believe that he was in certain ways stronger as Galadriel as the Grey, but in his White form...

Yeah, Gandalf would win from Galadriel, and Glorfindel as the White. If he was the Grey, it'd prove to be a good fight!

A new match-up: Isildur VS Aragorn, assuming Isildur to be from before the battle where he killed Sauron or whatever happened, I can't remember. Who would win?
I hope I am a good enough writer that some day dwarves kill me and drink my blood for wisdom.

All amusing spam aside, :shiftee: I would say perhaps Isildur considering he's more pure blooded I think, not sure though.

I would also have to say Isildur.

Unless Aragorn had allies.

They exist at different time periods and use the SAME FRICKING SWORD!!! How the heck could they fight?

I used to be {AE}Manveru, if that rings a bell.

Aragorn. Despite Isildur's blood, Aragorn did more remarkable things and had much more experience under his belt. His will was also significantly stronger, as he was able to resist being around the ring for a large amount of time, something Isildur was never able to do. In addition, he was trained by Elrond and probably Glorfindel, not to mention numerous other immensely powerful Elves who would easily take down someone like Elendil in single combat (not necessarily easily, but without injury). The Elves trained the descendants of Elros for success against Sauron. That was their one purpose. They knew that only with the aid from a powerful heir of Elros that they could destroy their greatest enemy, save the one in the void, until the Dagor Dagorath.

Arborlon, they did not use the same sword. Isildur used Narsil for a few seconds. Aragorn used Anduril for about 130 years of his life.

There's also the fact that this is a "what-if" scenario.

That only applies to the strength of his mind.

Arborlon, they did not use the same sword. Isildur used Narsil for a few seconds. Aragorn used Anduril for about 130 years of his life.

My mistake.

When presented with CIL's evidence, though, I'm going to have to change my answer and say Aragorn.

Aragorn.

The only thing Isildur did was stabing Sauron in the back. Sauron's body did fell at Elendil's body, and so Elendil was burned a live.

About Glorfindel VS Gandalf. I'm not sure. Glorfindel was almost the equal of a maiar*. Will Gandalf couldn't use his full power.

If it was before then Merry would win. But if it was after Pippin would win ;)
What about a tag team. Sauron tag WitchKing vs Aragorn tag Gandalf?

Sauron in Physical form, Aragorn has Anduril and Gandalf is white
