Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn

The continent of Tellius is divided into seven countries: three of the human beorc, and four of the shape-shifting laguz. The Begnion Empire is ruled by the teenage Empress Sanaki and her mentor Sephiran, the Duke of Persis. Beneath them is the Senate, among whom the priests Lekain and Hetzel are prominent. Lekain’s lesser cronies include Numida and Valtome, a pair of arrogant and power-hungry mages. To the northeast is Daein, a country that made the rest of Tellius into its enemies when its late ruler, the Mad King Ashnard, cut a bloody swath through the neighboring country of Crimea. Crimea, ruled by the young Queen Elincia, is only now recovering from the devastation wreaked on it by the Mad King.
The laguz nation of Gallia is closely allied to Crimea, and Ike’s mercenaries serve as a liaison between the two countries. It is ruled by the lion laguz Caineghis, whose impetuous son Skrimir commands the military along with the more cool-headed Ranulf. To the south is the dragon laguz nation of Goldoa, ruled by the staunchly neutral Dheginsea. South of Goldoa are the island nations of the bird laguz: Phoenicis, domain of the Hawk King Tibarn; and Kilvas, under the administration of the enigmatic Raven King, Naesala. Once, there was a fifth laguz nation called Serenes Forest, but the forest and most of the heron laguz were destroyed in what became known as the Serenes massacre. Despite this, the Heron King and his three children still live, although the eldest, Rafiel, is missing.

PART 1: SILVER-HAIRED MAIDEN

The first section of the plot centers around the Dawn Brigade, a group of Daein freedom fighters battling the occupying Begnion forces. Their leader, Micaiah, is a powerful healer known as the “Silver-Haired Maiden.” Her companion, the thief Sothe, is a veteran of the Mad King’s War, and once fought alongside Ike’s mercenaries. They fight the enemy army in the capital city of Nevassa before being forced to leave by an increase in troops led by General Jarod. Jarod, commanded directly by Senator Numida, commits acts of unbelievable atrocity.
As they head to another city, they discover a cleric named Laura who needs their help to get medicine for her abbot. Unfortunately, all of the medicine has been confiscated by the occupation, and the Dawn Brigade is forced to steal it. As they attempt to escape, Micaiah and Laura are captured by Jarod. Sothe breaks into the prison and breaks them out, also rescuing a friendly group of merchants and a mysterious wanderer named Kurth.
Fleeing from Nevassa, the Dawn Brigade reaches the edge of the Desert of Death, where they meet the lost Heron Prince, Rafiel, and his wolf laguz companions: Queen Nailah of Hatari and her servant Volug. As they leave the desert, they notice a conflict between a force of Begnion soldiers and a group of three fighters: General Tauroneo, Zihark, and Dragonmaster Jill. After saving them, they learn that Tauroneo is the leader of the Daein Liberation Army, and that he is protecting Prince Pelleas, a young man thought to be the illegitimate son of Ashnard and therefore the heir to the throne. Micaiah agrees to fight alongside him.
Tauroneo takes command of the Dawn Brigade, and they break their way through a mountain pass that leads toward Nevassa. However, Jarod blackmails Fiona, the lady of Marado, to stiffen the Begnion cavalry force. After the Begnion commander threatens to kill a group of Daein children unless the Dawn Brigade surrenders, the Marado Knights defect and Micaiah’s army is victorious.
In order to increase their army’s numbers, Tauroneo orders Micaiah to attack a prison camp where ex-Daein Soldiers are being held. They are aided soon after by the fire mage Tormod and his laguz companions Muarim and Vika.
As the Daein army heads toward Nevassa, Micaiah hears that a group of Daein peasants are about to be executed by being drowned in the swamp. She heads to save them, defeating their captors and setting them free. During the celebration of their victory, Micaiah slips away to take a rest, only to find herself surrounded by Jarod and his forces. Fortunately for her, the enigmatic and nearly invincible Black Knight, thought to have been killed in the Mad King’s War, returns to her aid. After killing Jarod’s second-in-command, the Black Knight pledges his allegiance to Pelleas, saying he will do anything to help reclaim Daein. At the same time, Empress Sanaki and Duke Persis hear of the atrocities committed by the liberation army, and decide to pull the occupation army out of Daein.
With his loyal subordinate dead and the Senate planning to blame him for the disaster they created, General Jarod slips into madness. He orders the catapults of Nevassa to face inward and begin destroying the city, sparking the final attack of the Dawn Brigade. In the end, Jarod is killed, and Pelleas takes the throne. Micaiah is promoted to the head of the Daein Army in accordance with the new King’s wishes, and is well-loved by the citizenry.
