I know that Renx needs a special importer to use the .w3d format, but does the same thing apply for 3ds Max? Or does 3ds Max accept .w3d on its own? :p

The w3d importer works just the same with 3ds max as it does with RenX/GMax. It's a maxscript so you can use it in 3dx max as well.

To export, you use the 3dx max plug-in. You can the plug-in as the newer version of RenX (which is an extention/gamepack/plug-in of GMax), as the plug-in has a number of additional options and bits. Other than that you also have all of the content creation tools in 3ds max.

To import, just use the same importer that Renx uses. Where in the 3ds Max program files do I place the importer?

To export, I have to use a plug-in. First, where can I get this plug-in? Second, how do I "install" it?

The plug-in is part of the BFME SDK. Also the SDK has pretty good documentation on how to use the plug-in and different options that you might not be aware of.

Then put importer .ms file in [program location]\Scripts\Startup.

A note the plug in doesn't work properly in 3ds max 9.

Unfortunately, the person I'm talking to uses 3ds Max 2009. Any other option for saving in .w3d format?

That's right. It works in v7 and v8, but not in v9 and any version after. (Autodesk recompiled stuff in v9, so nearly every 3rd party plugin fro 3ds max in v7/8 stopped working.)

No. If the program won't use the code there is no direct option. You would have to get someone else to export your models for you. Also note that you couldn't just send the max files to someone with maxr7/8, as they won't be able to open 2008/2009 files. You must export them to a common format which often screws things up.

I really don't do requests and my Arnor Soldier is not fit for BFME. Don't ask me for either.
