Did anybody figure out how to get a movie file (vp6) working with alpha channels (purpose being palantir movies)? I know how to do the exporting and all, it's just getting a source movie with alphas that's the problem.

edit: doubt it has anything about alphas in it, but it's the only data we have about it :crazed:

I haven't tried adding Alphas yet I'll have to muck around with it.
Wouldn't it be the same as setting up alphas on an Avi?

That's essentially the problem, I don't know how to set up alphas with an avi ;). Last time I did video editing it was impossible, you had to have a seperate black and white file to mask out in your editing program.

And yes lauri, scoured the forums for info too, no dice.

Update on this: not currently possible as the newest version of SiberianGremlin's converter (0.07) still only supports VP60.

Don't the EA vids have alphas though?
Or does the Palantir image's alpha cover over the edges?.

EA's have alphas, we just don't have to tools to create them ourselves (we need VP61 files to handle 32-bit video and can only convert VP60). The most significant issue with this is that mods wishing to expand the BFME 1 campaign can't properly create palantir video files. So...

- No new army images (video that plays on mouseover or selection of a LWM army or city)
- No new palantir event videos (campaign videos that play when an event happens, LWM or ingame)

Unless someone finds a way around this...

...So the problem is?
-You have made a movie with "Alpha" with an other format than VP6
or
-You have not been able to make any movie with an "Alpha"? ;)

You're not going to be able to solve it ;). Unless you're fluent in looking at video headers to expand SiberianGremlin's program, which doesn't support transperency (VP61).

So... The problem for you was getting an Movie that you made with Alpha converted to a VP6 file right?
What kind supports Alpha? VP61? or does it need to be better? :thumbsupsmiley:

VP61 supports alpha, VP60 doesn't. We can't convert to .vp6 files that use VP61.

I have to say, that it IS possible, the german mod with the name "DsuB 2 - III. ZA Version" for BFME 2, Download link: http://modding-union...le=dsubmod#kopf , added this feature.
But the guy who made it is inactive since the release of his mod, which is 2 and a half year ago. He didn´t let us know how he did it, but he did it, so it IS possible.
