Okay, this question has been bugging me. Is it theoretically possible to catch a virus or other malware over Hamachi? Like, if the other computer that you're connected to has malware, could any sort of malware manage to hitch a ride over Hamachi and implant itself on your computer? ;)

I wouldn't be surprised if it is possible, although that would require a file to have been sent over from the infected computer. So, you are more than likely safe from getting a virus that way.

I did disable file sharing. :good: So if file sharing is disabled, and I do nothing but chat and play LAN games over it, there should be nil chance of me acquiring malware over a Hamachi connection....correct?

The thread title made me chuckle . As the program essentially just simulates a LAN over a WAN connection, it has about the same effects in terms of security.

I really don't do requests and my Arnor Soldier is not fit for BFME. Don't ask me for either.

Yes but always have a good firewall and such ;)

Not only a firewall, but some sort of anti-virus and an anti-spyware. I know that much  ....stupid not to have any protection. It is the very fact that Hamachi sidesteps firewalls that was giving me some thoughts.

So, no virus over Hamachi. Technologically impossible. Therefore, whatever caused my desktop to just totally crash the day after I played a BFME II game over Hamachi was in no way related to Hamachi or a virus from it.....it must have been the video card.... :good: *muses on a problem*

Thanks everyone! ;)

Wise words, indeed.
It has been reported that some victims of rape, during the act, would retreat into a fantasy world from which they could not WAKE UP. In this catatonic state, the victim lived in a world just like their normal one, except they weren't being raped. The only way that they realized they needed to WAKE UP was a note they found in their fantasy world. It would tell them about their condition, and tell them to WAKE UP. Even then, it would often take months until they were ready to discard their fantasy world and PLEASE WAKE UP

Careful. This link is DANGEROUS. Do NOT click it. This one, however, is fine.

Let me clarify something about viruses: You cannot get affected just by being connected to PC that has one. Viruses are programs like all others, you have to execute them before they can do anything.

Spyware not, I believe, and that can be as annoying as a virus.
