Hello everyone, I'm new here to the Revora forums, and likely am doing this entirely wrong! This is my first question here, and definitely won't be my last. I'm new to LotR Bfme2 Worldbuilder. I only know a few things, but I know the very basics like increasing and decreasing height, etc.
I came looking for tutorials on making waterfalls, and found these forums, seeing the nice people giving questions and getting answers made me jealous, and I quickly decided to register! Now I will ask you:
How do you make waterfalls? I've attempted to make them by making cliffs/hills/mountains/etc. with rivers and then making the river drop off the edge, but all it does is float over the edge of the cliff! How do I make a nice waterfall like the ones in Rivendell? Thanks!
While I'm here, I'd also like to ask you about river flows, how do I make a river flow in the direction I want it to?
Thanks everyone! Rock on!
(MY FIRST SMILY! WOOT! )

Welcome to the forums, Finrod ^^
1) Waterfalls:
Maybe in the future we'll have games with this physics but not just yet
Water is just a plane in BFME, it's not a liquid that falls of cliffs.
The waterfalls you see in some maps is just an object with water flowing, like some sort of fountain.
To get some cool looking waterfalls, you need to combine an upper river or lake, the lower river, and the waterfall object inbetween.
You can also add other objects such as rocks and foliage to make it look even better.
Do you know how to place objects yet?
If not, look for an icon that looks like three lines pointing from the same spot. That button will open a window with the list of all default objects in the game.
If you look in the following categories, you'll find some waterfall objects you can use:
ByNativeType > Civilian > Misc_Natural > Waterfall (There's a few waterfalls you can use here)
The rivendell waterfalls are also available somewhere else on the list.
2) Rivers: You can just rotate the river to the direction of your choice by moving all it's points ^^

Thank you very much, both for the welcome and the help! I found the waterfalls in "MISC_NATURAL," and yeah, I knew how to place objects.
One thing that I did not see, however, is a large waterfall, on the maps I was wanting to use waterfalls on I was hoping to have larger ones, smaller than the Rivendell falls and larger than the ones you showed me.
I appreciate your help very much, thanks!

Hey, I just got done working on my first waterfall. Let's see if I can post a picture of it somehow...
OKAY! I officially fail at this, as an off topic question, how do I post a picture? Goes to show how much I use forums and upload pictures...
Anyway, I did a rough little waterfall with about 4 or 5 different layers, but couldn't get the water around it to look right, I fail at waterfalls.

Thanks Matt, you're a lifesaver! Now, let us see if it works:
If you're able to see the picture, you'll see how I fail at everything from the waterfall posistioning to the cliffs around them, and I obviously fail at water, being unable to make any that looks good. However, I am going to keep trying new things using your guide (Matt) and get better textures and figure out how to make a good looking map! Thanks!

That's the spirit! Don't forget that in the large, permanent object box on your screen is the scale function.

Is that picture taken with a camera?
Hah, no, Imageshack.us, thanks for that by the way, Matt! Lol.

I FOUND IT! The waterfalls like in Rivendell are in Misc. Natural with the others, they're called "Rivendell Waterfall."
Haha, I fail!
Thanks for all the help here guys!
