Well, I vote that we should start up another writing contest, since the last one epic failed. :p I wasn't able to enter because my soul was being eaten by a musical, but I'll be able to enter this one. :) Anyone have good ideas for a theme?

And I wasn't able to enter because I had tons of coursework and exam preparation which in the end took over completely and I forgot about the contest. Alright, I'm up for another one which will start on June 1st and end at midnight on June 30th. My initial idea for the theme is 'crime' because I've been watching Criminal Minds, Dexter, The Shield, Psych and Castle recently, and they're all awesome but all about criminals. Any other suggestions will be appreciated and intellectual property rights disregarded. :p
I hope I am a good enough writer that some day dwarves kill me and drink my blood for wisdom.

No furries. :p

Nah, I'm kidding. Make it about furries if you like. Just make it good.

I do believe that we should get a consensus that we will all participate before we actually start it, otherwise it'll be like the last one.

I can do a crime theme, although you won't want to read my entry when your little brother is looking over your shoulders, or while you're eating dinner. :p

EDIT: IRS, which musical? Were you acting or in the pit orchestra? (Pit orchestras are amazing, as your truly stays down underneath the stage with his instruments ;))

That sounds like an interesting idea... how long are these entries, generally speaking?

No more than 1500 words should be fine. You can say a lot in that many words. Also, yes, I will participate in this one. ;)

You should get TLOC to come back. Seems like he got promoted and then just left to flaunt his rank. :p

@ Rafv: The Music Man. I was the tenor in the barbershop quartet. The pit loved us because they didn't have to learn music to go along with us... we were always a cappella. Also, I'll make sure my little brothers don't watch me. ;)

Your pit is lazy, then :p The Music Man has awesome stuff. I can't wait until our new fine arts auditorium is done at the new school; we're doing a fall musical. Should be fun ;)

I don't think I've ever written a self-sustaining fiction piece with more than twelve hundred words, actually. My only 1500+ fiction has all been in RPs or stories that I never finished ;)

Make it about furries if you like. Just make it good.

Uhhh... things that are theoretically impossible. Zing! 1 point for the red team.

Well I have an epic piece I wrote based off a picture awhile back. So I would be in I guess...

How about, something more random? I used to write a lot, and with a good quality (I believe :p), so I'd like to start writing again after I'm done with my exams, and see what y'all think of it.
It has been reported that some victims of rape, during the act, would retreat into a fantasy world from which they could not WAKE UP. In this catatonic state, the victim lived in a world just like their normal one, except they weren't being raped. The only way that they realized they needed to WAKE UP was a note they found in their fantasy world. It would tell them about their condition, and tell them to WAKE UP. Even then, it would often take months until they were ready to discard their fantasy world and PLEASE WAKE UP

The contest theme is more to give it structure... otherwise there isn't enough of a standard to rate them on. For example, Fyodor Dostoevsky and J.D. Salinger are both great, but in quite different ways: both are masters of the psychological novel, but their writing styles and themes are different. Dostoevsky plays around with Nietzche's ubermensch theory, while Salinger is all about "phonies"... Great, I'm rambling now.

*Vort, are you also wondering where TLOC's vaunted initiative went?*

Yes, but shh... :) I'm not really expecting anything quite on a par with Dostoevsky or Salinger, but if you can, it would be appreciated. Incidentally, is anyone else aware that Catcher In The Rye is the book most identified with by serial killers? Mark David Chapman quoted it after he shot John Lennon, as did the dude who shot Reagan. Anyway, yeah, anyone who likes Catcher In The Rye is probably a serial killer.

I remember hearing about the guy who shot John Lennon in class... Quite interesting, actually. Apparently Lennon was a phony. :) Still, I liked it, and I'm certainly not a serial killer... yet.

I'm not expecting Dostoevsky or Salinger either... it's just that I've recently been reading excerpts of Crime and Punishment, and I figured that since Raskolnikov and Houlden were mostly psychological, I'd compare the two. ;)

*I have an idea. Why don't you promote ME instead? :) [/kidding]*

Anyway, we should probably rough out a starting and ending date for this. I'm assuming that the theme is officially crime?

The start and end date is the start and end of June. This contest will last exactly one month. That's because by June I will have finished most of my exams and will be able to get back to the kind of lazing with no deadlines that I miss so much at the moment. As for the theme, we still have a week and a bit to decide. Provisional theme is crime, but still open to debate.

can we make the theme more specific, because I can think of many sub-genres to crime, like slasher, psychological etc.

I've read that book about 6 times now, for my English Lit GCSE. Great book
