Prostitution

New Zealand, western Australia and the Netherlands are a few of the most famous places to have legalised prostitution. In New Zealand the major distinction is between "voluntary and involuntary prostitution". So forcing people into whoring is still very much illegal, but selling yourself or working in a brothel isn't. Hurrah!
Anyway, I was just wondering what everyone else's opinion was. I figure at least one person will want to rant about the decline of morality.

Methinks it might be a tad too late for that.we don't want our children watching porn stars when they're 9 or 10.
Anyway, to the topic at hand, it should be very legal. As George Carlin puts it, "Selling is legal. Fucking is legal. So why isn't selling fucking legal?" Actually, that's probably one of the few great quandaries of the day.

more importantly protection for the prosititutes themselves.
THIS
The three main problems with prostitution are the involuntary/drug addiction type, risk of disease, and abuse from pimps in the voluntary type.
Problems one and two are a lot easier to solve by focusing resources on them instead of ALL prostitution, and setting up a system of regulations rather than prohibition.
The problems of pimps, and prostitute abuse is best solved by legalization, because it effectively ends the need for pimps. If a whore isn't afraid to tell a cop that her customer beat her/stiffed her, she has no need for a pimp.
I don't know why this hasn't been legalized already. I mean, hell in the Bible a whore is one of the first people Jesus stands up to defend. I just don't get this nation's culture sometimes.
Also, in Germany, not only are sex workers legal, they're unionized.

Yea, why not legalize prostitution? The wife/husband was a nag anyway and premarital procreation is God's favorite invention.

The government does not own or have the right to exert power over my body, my mind, or my checkbook, except in such situations where my freedom of body, mind, and checkbook directly harm other people's rights to their bodies, minds, and checkbooks.
