No, as branch unlocks units and you should pick it according to your enemies or your mood of tactics for that particular game and of course you could play without picking branch, it is just a option for more specialised approach, in no way is branch a mandatory as you get generic army and your super unit without branch :D

Indeed, getting new mcv/building new base in same match won't make difference (branch will stay locked in place once picked, else it will stay open for picking) and you MAY NOT build other factions branches even if you acquire their mcv/buildings.

for example, WIP AL Branches, not including everything yet but gives a fair idea what kinda decision it is and you select branch once you have built a radar on all factions.

I agree, sweet presentation. The avenger bomber looks great to me.

It appears that the player can atleast get one tech unit from each part of the branch tree like illiusion have one of each type of unit (infantry tank aircraft and naval) but seems different in weather has no naval or infantry and chrono has 2 tanks

It's more that one has to ask where the best applications of those techs are. Plus that tech branch example is not complete - me and Apollo were yesterday discussing the Thunderhead unit for the Weather Tech user. I'm not going to tell you what the Thunderhead is though.

The Freedom League tech branching system is different than the Allied one; the FL get barely any high-level units without picking a specialism. Also, they have a lot more units which are replaced by the tech branch - i.e., the original unit cannot be built once a certain tech decision has been made (one of the other branches may continue to allow that unit if it doesn't replace it). The AL have a couple of these but not as many. Bottom line - AL could, in theory, afford to remain unspecialised and could still hold their own - the tech branches are just augments to their power. FL are much weakened in the later game if they don't.

I have yet to know how the NEXUS and Osiris tech branches will work. :)

Some branches replace some units types with their research special so that those units do those jobs better becoming more fitting of a playstyle. That's not to say Allies suck in water and the siege sub will make them better, in fact they do a really good job at naval same with the other sides and the siege sub helps them more in a specific naval environment if you pick a playstyle like that.

I see the branches as augmentation of a sides existing strengths.

Providing/replacing units which follow a specific trait of a faction or perhaps opening up new strategies with technology which in rs 1.99 was more limited.

It won't grant you instant win but it will expand your tactical abiliites considerably.

I have a few suggestions on how NEXUS and Osiris tech branches may work.

NEXUS has the tendency to use low level units (no veterancy) all the time while giving them all simultaneous features to make up for it such as perma heal and hover tanks. Maybe one of the NEXUS tech branches allows him to build a real navy, by giving him access to a navy yard and signature naval units are built from there. Also, he might make a breakthrough in research with one of the other tech branches and get to build veterancy units from that branch for a change, but the cost to those units is not always having perma heal and they have to work for that.

Osiris has a love for superior firepower in direct combat, so a good deal of tech branches may offer her even more fearsome offensive weapons. For a change of pace, she may even have access to a "fast units" branch, allowing her to use hit-and-run tactics en masse.

But I'm just suggesting based on speculation.

I do remember faintly that Apollo himself did mention the idea of NEXUS tech tree some where on the forum....

here:
http://forums.revora...&...st&p=679093

Hacking branch being the lovely mess up enemy units or take them over tactics or pick the heavy plasma weapons branch to walk enemy over with or just screw high tech weapons and hacking efforts and instead focus in mass production of hover & infantry hordes with reduced prices and such bonuses.

Hope we get to see NEXUS tech tree too :good:
