Was it the kind of "Aww, you're so sweet!" hug that is the bane of potential relationships or the kind of "Hmm, maybe I should give you some serious consideration as a potential mate with whom to trick my body into thinking it has fulfilled its genetic imperative" hug? Note: the second one is the kind you're looking for.
Also, there is a way out of the friend zone. It just requires some seriously unusual circumstances. Like, falling way into debt and convincing her to make a porn film with you. Or you could leave her alone for a few years and come back when you're mature, handsome and suave, and sweep her off her feet. It's all good.

I would, under most circumstances, believe that of Vort's two options for escaping the friend-zone, the second is more viable.
