I'm curious....
Where did everyone get their nick names? Some are obvious (Elvenlord) and others aren't (Pasidon). Anyone care to share the history of their nick names?
I'll start!!

It all started when I get addicted to something called fate and destiny (don't ask...). And being a long time lover of Lord of the Rings, I just eventually after thinking about the One Ring, came up as the Ring of Fates because *Insert LOOOOONG explanation here*. But I liked Fate better, so I dropped the s. And thus created the username that I use anywhere I go on the Internet.

Vortigern is my favourite misunderstood historical character. The name was villainised by later 'historians' (actually Geoffrey of Monmouth, who was really a fiction writer posing as a historian), but the real Vortigern, while he may not have been the best king the Romano-British ever had, was far from the worst. The reason most people know the name is because of the Arthurian legend involving the dragons of Dinas Emrys (which is where the dragons in my avatar come from) but actual history, rather than myth and legend, indicates that Vortigern was a Northumbrian and never even went close to south Wales. His name was hijacked for the Arthur stories instead of anyone bothering to do any real research.

Wow, you totally chose the lamest instance of Archon. I was hoping it was the Protoss psychic thingummies from Starcraft, or you liked to think of yourself as an Athenian magistrate, or something. But here you are being all Forgotten Realms and rubbish.

My original name was Elfhelm, because he's my favorite minor Lord of the Rings character. But I got tired of being so impersonal and had it changed to mike.

Well, my name is Allard but I thought it'd be cooler to make it a bit more LotR-sounding. So I stuck -thar behind it and thus it turned into Allathar. Unfortunately, I was unaware at the time of the blue wizard 'Alatar', so many people will no doubt still think my name is misspelled. But whatever.

I was feeling uncreative at the time. Like most of the time, actually.

I chose Athos because it's the name of one of the Three Musketeers, who are possibly the coolest Frenchmen ever to draw breath.

Also, it's the name of the 1000-year-old archsage in Fire Emblem: Rekka no Ken, but that didn't influence my decision much...

Anyways...Vithar came about from when I was looking up Norse names for characters at a point when I wasn't much of a writer (basically sometime before I started RPing). So, at some point I saw the name "Vydar", which is a Norse name meaning "Forest Warrior". Doubtless, the name stuck with me. For whatever reason, I changed it to Vithar. No idea why. It might have been an Alternate spelling. Maybe I'll switch to Vydar at some point in the future. Maybe not. But in either case, it's all because of Norse names.

(And to a lesser extent, LotR, which made me look up Norse names.)

You would know if it was Japanese, (P)Athos. "Th" wouldn't be together, there would be more vowels and v would be replaced by a "b", as the Japanese don't have "v" in their language.


Actually, in romaji... Vithar would go to something like Baidaru or Baitaru. I am not positive as to how a th would translate into Japanese.

EDIT: Also, found that nickname well before I really liked the Japanese culture.
