If you've listened to Strapping Young Lad at any point, I can see why you'd think that. His solo work is definitely where you should be. It's really good shit.

Of course, the new Symphony X album has been out for a little while now.

I have listened to his solo stuff. More of it, in fact, than I've listened to Strapping Young Lad, and I still don't get the attraction. It's perfectly listenable with a couple of memorable tracks here and there, but that doesn't warrant the kind of reaction it actually gets.

Then again, maybe it's just me. I can't stand Rage Against The Machine either, and they seem pretty popular. What's the deal with saying a phrase over and over again while Tom Morello jizzes onto his guitar?

I didn't really start to listen to him before he sobered up and started with these Devin Townsend Projects. I've never really listened to SYL when that was popular, and I have probably not heard more than half a record of them now. I don't put him above Arjen when it comes to fancy music, but they can't really be compared.

Anyway, I have to say the other album he just released(Ghost) is more fascinating. Practically unplugged, smooth stuff.

edit: and yeah, I have to listen more to that new symphony X album, it seems to have potential. Although I've never been a hardcore fan of their style, it certainly ain't bad.

The first song from the new Opeth album coming out in september is available. Seems like they've taken more inspiration from progressive 70s rock and a smoother sound. Hopefully there will be some harder songs further out in the album.

Apparently Mikael Akerfeldt's given up on his death growls for this new album. And bearing in mind the cover art, I think a 70s prog-fusion-style album is pretty likely. If you haven't seen the art, link. I'm actually quite glad he's laid off the death growls. He has such a brilliant clean voice, I've always said he should use it more. As far as I'm concerned, Damnation is still Opeth's best album.

It has been reported that some victims of rape, during the act, would retreat into a fantasy world from which they could not WAKE UP. In this catatonic state, the victim lived in a world just like their normal one, except they weren't being raped. The only way that they realized they needed to WAKE UP was a note they found in their fantasy world. It would tell them about their condition, and tell them to WAKE UP. Even then, it would often take months until they were ready to discard their fantasy world and PLEASE WAKE UP

I love this band - Seventh Wonder's album The Great Escape is just a nice, conceptual, Swedish progressive metal album. I have yet to listen to their other studio albums.

Okay, Mercy Falls is even more of an epic album.

Been a while since i listened to seventh wonder, they are certainly DT-inspired just as Circus Maximus. Hmm, been a while since i listened to those as well.

And just to fuck it up for all us metalheads, I'll add some Linkin park here :thumbsupsmiley:

These two songs combined makes for a pretty epic combo. I would have loved to make a music movie about the progression of mankind on the Catalyst: Going from rock-thumping cavemen building weapons killing each-other(showing us from our average sides), up through the different ages and wars to some stylistic transhuman singularity event at the end where you get your mind blown ^_^

Just dug these guys out and started listening. They matured greatly from their earlier albums.

This song is from their album Magic Never Dies. And goddamn this shit is really upbeat for power metal. XD

I've been getting seriously into my trip-hop the last few weeks. I mean goddamn guys, it's like you're writing the music my soul can hear. ^_^
Hooverphonic - Mad About You.

Portishead - Glory Box.

hmm, those songs reminds me I got one and a half a season of House left to watch, I think they and their kin have been used there a few times.

nostalgia in this one.

And I'm still trying to figure out where to find the dead island soundtrack.

Really into some music that's been labelled as 'post hardcore' at the moment:
My Chemical Romance's first album: "I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love"
and Leathermouth's first and only album: "XØ"

And a bit of noise rock too, a band called Lightning Bolt, weirdest music ever :p
Dracula Mountain, Crown of Storms and 13 Monsters are my favourite songs that I've found by them.

Youtube links or it didn't happen :thumbsdownsmiley:

saw some vids on youtube of lightning bolt, it reminded me of Shining:blackjazz, which is a metal-jazz band up here.

here's a live recording, its a bit less polished than the album, but its more my style of noise-rock.

Also, Shining is imo better than that lightning bolt thing, but that is subjective I guess. Might be something to look into though, insane progressive metal instead of guy on going beserk on drums with mediocre skill.

Figured It's been a while since I heard anything from Jesper Kyd, the composer behind the Hitman soundtracks, and as I found out, Assassins creed, so I went and checked out some of that music and came over this one.

I think its something about the pitch changes at around one minute that hits my heartstrings. Also, them guitars are really something. Very few instruments that can beat the guitar at times, only the human voice I guess

edit: part 2 is also good at it

Old school, I know, but I've been getting into Everlast a bit lately, and I suddenly realised where I recognised his name from. Therefore:
