Well that depends on your budget, although personally, I'd wait a while. Technology is undergoing a huge evolutionary phase right now so it might be more beneficial and cost effective to sit back and wait a few months.

Thought I'd have that here to save time.

Keep in mind that you can't use DDR3 is your motherboard doesn't support it.

Hope you enjoy wasting money if you get DDR3 memory then. Your mobo isn't compatible.

That's not true. He can use it but it won't be at its full potential and perform much worse than it would if he used the correct specification.

Not quite yet. Upgrade the current system and wait about six months for Intel's 1156 boards to drop in price and build one of those instead.

However, for your current system a 512MB 9600GT, or a 9800GTX+ if you get more cash, and 4GB of GSKILL, or OCZ, RAM would beef things up considerably. A dual core processor is nothing to snub just yet so that's fine.

Forget Fens advice on the graphics card too. His recommendation on GPUs can't be faulted, but just as the little war between
nVidia and ATI is about to pick up again? Don't rush into a purchase. Not even based on our advice. Sit back, bide your time
a little and do your own research on the components you have and want. You might come to the same conclusion as Fen.
You might go for something different. But you will feel a lot happier and confident about your purchase.

EDIT: For RAM, my recommendation is either OCZ or Corsair. No experience with GSkill, so no opinion on them. With GPUs
I'd put my full support behind Asus and BFG and warn you to give XFX a very wide birth. Nothing but problems there.

I don't recommend based on ATI/nVidia 'Wars.' I base it off personal experience. I currently use a PNY Tech 9600GT and it's fantastic for its price and I have no complaints. I don't really look as deeply into ATI cards but my brother ran a refurbed X700 for a while and it ran fairly well until the fan got too loud.

Either way, I recommend the 9600GT. I can't make someone buy it but from my experience, it's awesome. :p

However... since he has an AMD board, he might be better off with an HD4850/4870.
