Not really.

Dunno mind you I don't play psychotically high end games. If the 9500 GT is twice as good as what I currently have (counting the RAM boost as well, yes I know that's better but more RAM is a bonus) then it should be good enough for what i play.

EDIT: You are going to replace a videocard from a factory made pc, I've personally never done this and I don't know the risk.

Well I gave you all the stats, the actual model of the HP, and the PSU that came with it. I don't see how now that we know all minute details there can be a difference.

That should be the ATi website. They make a safe number, so if you are using a i7 with 5.0 GHz and a water cooling loop and a 4670, you will need 400 Watt  As you can see in the review about the 4670 vs 9500GT, the 4670 uses 9 Watts more than the 9500 GT.

Ah, so that's just taking into account a system that's extremely high end in other areas, right?

I don't really know, I always use this method just to be safe.

Well when I upgraded my old comp from the shitty HP Intel Graphics chip that came with it to a relatively better GeForce 4000 I didn't have to do that. Seeing as how they weren't even made by the same company I would think the drivers should be compatible and not cause fuckups since both cards are NVIDIA in this case.

With my old Dell I couldn't even replace my RAM otherwise it would crash.

Well, Dells are crap. My computer teacher said to always avoid dells as they're the hardest to upgrade. I assumed he meant they just have less room in general, now I know what he meant.

But yeah, the aforementioned old comp I had was a factory-build HP just like this one, and adding the GeForce 4000 didn't cause any problems. I even added an extra 1 gig DDR1 RAM chip to it as well with no problems whatsoever.

Yes, Dells are crap. But if you have no problems replacing things in your HP, a videocard upgrade wouldn't be a problem either as long as it's the correct PCI-E interface and the wattage is within the PSU's limit.

Well the current card is a PCI-E, and so is the one I'm getting.

And according to you the wattage is fine and it should work. The only issue I'm having now is whether the upgrade is worth it...I mean it will be better, I know that, but for me it really depends on how much. It has twice as many cores as the 8500 GT, plus the bonus of having 1 gig of RAM (my 8500 GT has 264mb or something, just 1/4th). I'd estimate it should be roughly twice as good at the very least, and seeing how my comp acts now with the 8500 GT it would be a great improvement considering the games I play.

I mean I don't play Crysis nor do I intend to or anything. The only games I regularly play are Phoenix Rising, Warzone 2100 (which will run on fucking anything rofl, it runs on my old GeForce 4000 just fine), STALKER Shadow of Chernobyl (which plays smoothly at around 90% stats), and Supreme Commander (which is more of a CPU hog than anything.).

The only game I'm looking forward to is Supreme Commander 2, and if they keep their word it will be less demanding on graphics cards at least, so really for me and what I play the 9500 GT is a good improvement, strictly relatively speaking.

And even then if I get around to considering the Radeon card/cards you suggested and I'm willing to trust myself with going through the hell of uninstalling drivers in safe mode I can always return the 9500 GT to Amazon.

It's not me, it are the reviews and the PSU calculator.

The price difference between the 1GB 4670 and 9500GT 1GB is only 10$. But it's your choice

I could always return it. For now as long as the 9500 GT is an improvement in some way I can deal. I just want to know how much of an improvement compared to the 8500 GT when you consider it relatively and also the games I play.

Just the hell of going through safe mode and uninstalling drivers...feel like I'd severely fuck something up. I don't trust myself enough.

Got the new card; all is well.

I had a problem with getting PR/FoC to work actually at first, it had an exception everytime I started the game. All my other games worked.

Then I looked up the error I got in the log and....well this doesn't make any sense, the error I found happens when trying to play FoC on Vista 64...I have Vista 32, and the error occurred due to my new graphics card. (Well, it happened after I installed the new card, so that had to be the reason).

Regardless, in desperation, I did the fix they gave and it worked.

It made as much sense as getting a flat tire and fixing it by changing the car battery. No fucking clue how that worked, but it did, so I ain't complainin`.

Makes about as much sense as anything else does when it comes to fixing computer problems.

Vista is weird like that, I've heard similar stories where Vista 32 likes to pretend it's Vista 64.

All I have to say about Vista is.. Windows 7 free upgrades? lolol.

You know that's happened a lot with me...

Getting supposed Vista 64 problems when I have Vista 32.

I did fix the Vista 64 issue for the next version. Kind of sad it's still not been done officially though.

It had to do with adding an XML folder and putting a Graphics something or other XML in it.

Here it is, in case anyone else needs it. Just put it in the PR XML folder(s).
