So I decided to give Warcraft 3 a try and it is not a bad game so far. Only problem is that my game freezes on mission six in the human campaign. :p I think my disc is damaged because the opening cinematic scene does not have any sound or music. :p Guess I'll have to buy a new one...

I do notice that this game is very much hero based. Also has a lot of micro management as most armies do not get larger than 20 units. To me, heroes are a little bit OP as they can wipe out whole armies at a high level. The story and cinematic scenes are nice though (so far :)) and some of the voices are quite funny. :p The campaign also is quite challenging (mission five is quite tricky).

I think you can download a CDless version from Blizzard.

According to the website, it is based more on Spells and Heroes than units, unlike Starcraft and apparently WC1 and 2. Never played 1 or 2 so I don't know about that.

Do you play with the latest patch? It screws up a lot of things. I have not tried the Reign of Chaos campaigns with the patch, I have no idea if they're still working.

And yeah, you won't find a Battle for Middle Earth in Warcraft 3. Micromanagement is important, especially when you're playing online. Heroes are indispensable but they don't make up the game: if you are in the possession of no units, the heroes will not avail you.

By based more on spells and heroes than units, I don't mean you don't need units, or that you should have more heroes than units. That was from the WC3 website.

IDK about WC3, but with Starcraft, with the digital version, I had to download a different patcher to patch it. They probably have something similar with Warcraft.

Wow, the campaign for this game is really challenging! Probably does not help that I play on hard mode with the fastest settings. :p The last mission for the Elves is insane! :p Now onto Frozen Throne.

I beat Frozen Throne. The ending is very similar to how Starcraft: Brood War ended. I wouldn't mind seeing a Warcraft 4 coming out. :good:

*thinks hard about BW*

Kerrigan runs off with the Zerg somewhere leaving you with an unfinished story, yes? Yes, I'd see that.

I think the WC3 story lead into WoW. And of course now there's the fall of the lich-king, so, I'm guessing, some of the WC3 story has been finished up. Who knows what wc4 would be like after cataclysm.

Most of the WC3 storylines have been finished... As far as I know, you kill the remaining dreadlords in WoW classic, Vasj, Illidan, Kael'Thas and Kil'Jaeden in TBC, and Kel'Thuzad and (presumably) the Lich-King in WotLK. Only storylines left open after that is Horde/Alliance, the stuff from Cataclysm, and Mal'Ganis (who reappears in WotLK as leader of the Scarlet Onslaught).
It has been reported that some victims of rape, during the act, would retreat into a fantasy world from which they could not WAKE UP. In this catatonic state, the victim lived in a world just like their normal one, except they weren't being raped. The only way that they realized they needed to WAKE UP was a note they found in their fantasy world. It would tell them about their condition, and tell them to WAKE UP. Even then, it would often take months until they were ready to discard their fantasy world and PLEASE WAKE UP

Well, as far as I know, Queen Azshara is not part of the Cataclysm, and Kil'jaeden wasn't killed, but rather prevented from entering Azeroth through the Sunwell. There's also, of course, Sargeras.

Forgot about him... But yes, he'll probably be in Cataclysm, since he was the one who ordered Varimathras to take the Undercity (the 'you have failed me, Varimathras' line appears in the 'Sargeras' directory in the game folders).

In the last blizzcast they talked about all the minor stories that haven't really bee picked up (I guess from wc3 or early wow) that could be expanded in the future.

I'm only assuming the Lich king stuff is ending in WotLK, based only on the name of the last patch "Fall of the Lich King" or whatever.

I'm sure they can come up with enough for a post-cataclysm wc4. Now, I heard someone let something slip at blizzcon, implying work on wc4. Anyone know about that?

Meh, didn't know they continued the story in WOW. Not really into those type of games. Surprised to hear the Lich King/Arthas dynasty end so quickly.

Hey, if you like BFME, then is there a good chance you also like this one?

Mwah, perhaps. They're both RTSes, but very different. In BfME it's usually just throwing your army at the opponent's base and hope for the best, while in WC3 a lot of thinking and micromanaging is required.

Depends on your definition of quickly... the character was introduced as a bad guy quite a few years ago. ^_^

That, and the fact that he is the most powerful bad guy out there (well, save for Sargeras perhaps), and everybody hates him. You can only survive for so long while the Horde, Alliance, Forsaken, Argent Crusade, Dreadlords, and Drakkari all want you dead ^_^

Finished the WC3 campaign yesterday... Interesting stuff. I hope I'm not lost on the story for WC4, since I don't play wow.

I think Blizzard are clever enough to keep WoW and WC separate, a lot of WC players hate WoW and vice versa.

I'm kind of hoping more than believing. Do any of you play DotA, if so I'll re-install good old WC3 and start playing again on Garena as you can find only DotA LAN servers there instead of sifting through all the other game hosts.
