Axes should not be used for cavalry. They are only a foot weapon.

Yeah, I'm guessing it's a one-handed axe. But besides it being very impractical, it's says in LotR itself axes are not a weapon for cavalry.

An axe is no weapon for a rider

-Legolas, The King of the Golden Hall

Unless they had riding axemen in the films, I don't think they should be in SEE. Does anyone remember them in the movies?

And a bow toggle added just makes it even more awkward and impractical.

Nazgul, I think this is it. Without all the images and text formatting, it looks like the same.

Actually some of Rohan Rider in flims carry axe to battle, Although we see them use it but still..axe is not the best weapon for cavarly.

The problem is, axes were not a widely used weapon in the Middle East culture (which is what Rhun was based on.)
Horseman's axes do exist, http://www.myarmoury...ew_aa_haxe.html but I think they should be used for the Rohirrim if they are used at all. The horseman's axe was not a weapon favored by Easterners in the Medieval Ages.

Khand is a little different than Rhun, but I think it was supposed to be more of a horse archer civilization. That probably means almost primarily cavalry with no axes whatsoever. I don't know of any Horse Archer Civilizations that used axes.

There isn't much info on the warriors of Khand, though, so I don't know. I'd stay keep the axes to footmen for them, anyway.

IIRC, the book says plainly that there were Eatserlings with axes (on foot, of course.) I'm looking for the quote.

Khand probably reference to mongol in real life ,So they suppose to be horse archer civilization.

Easterlings used axe though but on foot. :p

Here's the quote:

[orcs and junk], and countless companies of Men of a new sort that we have not met before. Not tall, but broad and grim, bearded like dwarves, wielding great axes. Out of some savage land in the wide East they come, we deem.

-Gandalf, The Siege of Gondor

That can be interpreted however you like. Not sure if it's referring specifically to Easterlings or not. Almost seems like the eastern version of the Far Harad men. Possibly Further east than Khand what's on most of the maps. At any rate, they bear axes. I guess say precisely that they aren't on horseback, but I think they were footmen. :p

Seems odd for Mordor to recruit men from way over there. The Dunlendings were less wild in the books than made out to be in BFME and the movies, but It's still possible, I guess. Usually they are counted among the Easterlings, I think.

since easterlings were a confederation of small states, it doesn't surprise me that there are different ethnic groups for them. the grim bearded easterlings with axes could be a summon power for the rhun faction (take a look at the spellbook thread), because the core rhun units are probably going to look like the easterlings in the movies (not including the haradrim and variags). many easterlings did use axes though, as written in the books. if you look at a lot of movie concept art, the easterlings have cool-looking axes as well.

also, i think dunlendings were only influenced by saruman, because of how close dunland was to isengard, and not sauron.

as for the tech tree emperor's referring to, i think he means the first post on the rhun faction thread. and a question about that: why crebain from dunland, for a faction based on rhun/harad?

Yes,But what i meant is those beared axemen probably looklike wild men from dunland and have nothing relate to saruman that for sure.

Even the confederation thing is only an estimation. Presumably one of the nations was bolstered by influence/wealth from Mordor to dominate most of the others. Otherwise a nation of Rhûn doesn't really exist. The term we'd be are using for 'The Western World' aka. 'The West' is a likely comparison, considiring 'Rhûn' being a Gondorian administrative designation meaning 'East', much like 'Harad' is 'South' (also see 'Harondor' = Southlands [south of Ithilien]).

Before this thread grows to be several pages I just want to point out that the idea behind these new subforums for each faction is that the former pinned faction topics will now instead be their own subforums. Meaning that I'd like you all to post SMALLER suggestions in single topics, and not really start new topics for the WHOLE faction. I understand that this topic is about one players ideas for the whole faction.... just don't expect me to give too much attention to it. I have a pretty clear idea of how this new faction will operate, and I wont deviate too much from that. So if you really want to make an impact, I suggest to try to limit your suggestion to smaller ideas and making topics that REALLY state clearlywhat the suggestion is all about. For example...

Headline: Variags of Khand
Subline: I'd like them to use axes

In that topic we could discuss just that. Wether they should use axes or some other weapon. The topic would probably not be longer than 2-3 pages tops, and it would make it a LOT easier for me to go through the subforums looking for useful ideas instead of having to read, like before, a single topic for one faction that goes on for XX pages of posts. OR XX single topics that ALSO go on for XX pages...

I hope you understand. I don't mind suggestions, that's why this subforum exists. But you have to try to keep it "simple" and divide into smaller topics... :p
