If all hopes of HL2 are true then modding it will be alow for some amazing inervation by modders. The following are some odd ideas which could be thrown in with another mod:

The Tower - The movie 'Tower' was realy good. It was no die hard or LOTRs, but it was a good movie. It takes place in a hi-teck sky scraper which is controled by AI t keep all the workers inside happy and productive. The AI starts picking on 1 person and this person fights back. The tower gets mad and starts closing elevator doors quickly to try and crush him. It also sets of sprinklers to drown him.
1 man Vs a Tower would be easy to make for a good mapper.

Pitch Black - Another movie idea. If the lighting in HL2 is as good as it sounds then situations like pitch black could be used. However the standard flashlight could be a problem. The same light could be used to kill vampires. Also in pitch black are the diffrent view types, the alines have the gray sonar and vin has the pink glows. Both are intresting.

Space - Many mods go into space, but few go into zero gravity. Such a thing might still be impossable, even in HL2. Being on a spcae ship has be done many times, however it's never been done effectivly in my view.
Along the same lines is underwater, this is never an idea i like because of the speeds involved, it's just too slow.

RPG - I saw a few RPG mods, but that were always quite poor. Such a system was never used correctly, as no real stats could be saved. Too many people hold to the stats even though there soo hard to make, however if simple improvments are given each level and all magics are used as if thay were weapons the system could have worked. This is still a very hard thing to do in FPS.

feel free to add any thoughs.

Anyone seen the movie 'pitch black' that would make a very interesting mod concept for half life 2. It would be sort of like AvP, dark coridoors, lots of aliens etc...

Yeah, wasn't bad, would be interesting to see if anyone could make a mod out of it.

Hmm those interesting thought... brace yourself for comments...

The Tower- are you suggesting a whole game based on this, or just one map? I'm not sure of any mods (multi or single) whose theme/objective would suit this scenario. Nevertheless, don't you think it may get kind of boring? You'd never know what could 'attack' you, which would be more annoying than anything else... battling an inanimate object that you can never physically destroy (you're talking physically fighting back right? heh) Anyway, I think taking small aspects of that and adding those sparingly into a map would work better than having the entire objective to 'fight' this building

- Space- I agree this really couldn't be done well... there's no way an FPS can incorporate this successfully (zero gravity, that is), since you can only control the player's aim... and lean, crouch, prone, jump. In real life... in space movement would require full control of all body parts (especially if bouncing off walls and such... ever read Ender's Game? fantastic book, but I digress). In an FPS, it'd be more like having ghost mode enabled and being able to fly in all directions... plus I don't think people would enjoy it if they got stuck SLOWLY floating in a large area

-RPG- Quoted from a discussion we had in the ITS forums. Originally posted by Coyoterys:

Converting a pnp rpg to a fps is a daunting task. Just ask fans of the rpg Vampire Masquerade how they felt about the first pc version. You need ALOT of flexablilty in the rpg rules to keep the fps action fun and paced correctly. Otherwise you end up with a turn based system, which is probably why all the great D and D pc games use the isometric system over fps.

The isometric turn based system just suits rpg's better. The pace of these games is slowed to allow for the strategic use of the rpg rules. This makes the D and D purists happy, but when creating a fps its not possible to translate all the charts and rules, so this causes the purists to whine.

Magic Gangsta also made the point that in RPGs, you have skills, many items, spells, etc. If all of these were put into an FPS, you'd get shot by a person with the most basic weapon before you could select a devestating spell to unleash thanks to all the menus and such. It'd take the pace of an FPS and slow it WAY down... too far down to make a successful game. As rys said, RPG games should be left to turn based systems, or games like Lineage II

The Tower - The movie was good. The hero destroyed the building in the end. You realy need to see this movie to know what it's about. Some parts, like having flooded rooms could be used by anyone almost.

RPG - Like i said "Too many people hold to the stats".
Almost all games are RPG's, there all Role Play Games. In HL you gain weapons to fight with, instead of stats and skills.

Well... yeah... you gain weapons to fight with... so what would you change to make a mod an RPG if you're going by this rationale... it already would be one

anyway, anything can be 'role-playing' but to fall in the genre of RPG games you'd have to have upgraded abilities at least that are there for your player to utilize. And FPSRPG would just be too damn slow moving, and n00bs would regulate, running and gunning
