What the hell am I doing here?
Wrist in a hateful cuff.
Is it a crime to be near
Your friend whose life is tough?
I didn't take it.
I just clapped the hand
That led to all this shit,
When the diamond hit the sand.

I can't help but look at the hand
That caused all of it.
Guilt by association,
And they throw me in the pit.

I'm guilty
Of doing nothing at all.
My mother
Was absolutely appalled.

Shit hit the fan
When he took the bag.
Police drove from the crag
The color of oppression is tan.
It surprised me
When they took me down.
I felt like a clown
When I saw her by the tree.

I can't help but look at the hand
That caused all of it.
Guilt by association,
And they throw me in the pit.

I'm guilty
Of doing nothing at all.
My mother
Was absolutely appalled.
*Solo*
I'm guilty by association.
I'm guilty by association.
I'm guilty by...
Guilty...
Guilt by association.

Think of a freakish mixture of Disturbed and Linkin Park.

It's good that you said this because from your title, all I could think of is the line "Guilty by association (You point the finger at me again)" from Linkin Park's song Runaway.

Also. Why is it that whenever I post lyrics to songs which I write, you almost immediately post one of yours? It's not like a contest; when you have a bit of creativity, just throw it up here. You don't have to wait for someone else to lead the way.

Have some courtesy,

Have some sympathy,

And some taste.

Use all your well-learned politesse,

Or I'll lay your soul to waste.

Why freakish? Does it involve the screams of infants? Pig squeals? A drumkit made of dustbins and animal bones? Some particular sound that would make it instantly recognisable as this and this alone? I think not. Also, "the colour of oppression is tan". A quick dissection: are we talking tanned people as a symbol of our cultural decadence, representing how people in our society feel the need to lie in the sun for hours being entirely unproductive simply to go a slightly redder shade of pink? Or are we talking about the colour tan, which is thought to suppress creativity and is associated with an emotional disconnect? Or neither, because you're 13 and haven't thought about it too deeply?

And I agree with Copaman, my first thought was 'Runaway' too. Haven't heard that song in years...
I hope I am a good enough writer that some day dwarves kill me and drink my blood for wisdom.

By freakish, I mean the combination would be weird.
And by that one line, I meant the color of the police car. They're sometimes tan.
@Copa: I was bored, and it gave me an idea of something to do, that's all.

Police cars are generally black and white. Observe:

Have you seen the sheriff's car? It's generally tan, and the sheriff is considered a cop.
Anywaaaay...if you're wondering about the guitar, it'd be kinda like a mix of Believe and The Night, both by Disturbed, and the singer would be kinda like Linkin Park, where the verses are kind of a rap, while the chorus/bridge is the other guy.

Oh, so the sherriff is the only one who oppresses people. :xcahik_:

I'm with IRS on this one. I didn't know sheriff's cars were tan, because we don't have sheriffs over here, and it seems a bit stupid. He's still a cop, so why not give him a black-and-white? Actually, most of our police cars are luminous yellow these days because they have to be safety conscious. It's quite a letdown.

Hybrid Theory was an incredibly solid album.

Have you noticed that so far, all of TLC's lyrics have, in some way, been connected to Hybrid Theory?

It's because I'm listening to my music on my LG Incite which is Hybrid Theory, Indestructable, All Hope is Gone, Believe, Ten Thousand Fists, and some The Sickness. As you can see, lots of Disturbed.

You need to throw in a bit of variety. Go for some Metallica, Slayer, Annihilator, Anthrax, Nine Inch Nails, Stone Sour, Killswitch Engage, Soulfly, etc... Those should all be things you'll like, given that you're a fan of Slipknot and Disturbed. Might be a little heavier than you're used to in places, but it's all good.

I like Killswitch Engage, Nine Inch Nails, and Metallica, but I don't get much inspiration from them, mostly because the lyrics are hard to base something different off of.

O RLY? :cool2:

I don't listen to any of that kind of music, but from the others' comments I'm not picking up the "difference" vibe.

It's true, your lyrics do seem to take more than just inspiration from your subject matter. I'll tell you what you should do: pick a topic you know something about, and write lyrics about that. At your age, that won't be sex, drugs or rock'n'roll, but that leaves plenty of opportunities for interesting things. Lyrics should mean something to you, not just be a collection of words that fit a tune you cobbled together out of someone else's work. Remember also that swearing does not make a song hardcore. Iron Maiden, in all their thirty years of active service to the music world, only swore once in all that time. (Holy Smoke [No Prayer For The Dying] - "I've lived in filth, I've lived in sin, but I still smell cleaner than the shit you're in.") Regardless, they are one of the foremost metal bands in the world, and have been for the past twenty-five years.

Thought-provoking lyrics are far and away the best kind. Think of Eminem. A lot of people, myself included, like his work not because we like rap but because his lyrics are so damn good. That's the level you should aim for. Most people will never come close, but if you do then you'll be doing OK for yourself.
I hope I am a good enough writer that some day dwarves kill me and drink my blood for wisdom.
