Anyway, if you were tweaking your vista, you shouldnt have any trouble figuring out the different menus in this one either. The biggest visual difference is the taskbar, which acts a bit different now. After that there's some shake possibilities which you can use to snap windows to one half of your screen or get rid of the stuff behind the window you're shaking.
don't ask me about technical differences, it works well on my pc after i updated the Bios. And i never had trouble with Vista on the pcs ive been using it on.

Because netbooks are low tech, the improvement over Vista was quite noticable. (Yeah, Vista. It was my only option and worked fine with the proper settings and tweaks.)
Ubuntu is a great free alternative, as 2play says, but if Linux (Ubuntu) is not an option and/or Linux simply is not for you, you're almost automatically looking at Windows, and then Windows 7 certain is the best choice.
I'd be running it on my main pc already if I wasn't planning on replacing it.

Wait, what? Windows 7 wasn't even out then.I've been using Windows 7 since about december last year on my netbook (MSI Wind)
Windows 7 was released to manufacturing on July 22, 2009,[4] and general retail availability on October 22, 2009,

And it seems my computer is running faster. The boot takes longer... but I can actually play ROTWK on medium graphics now.
