This has probably been thought of before, but one solution for the Lv10 outside-of-fortress heroes could be to have prerequisite buildings. E.g. a Lv2 Gondor Barracks to recruit Boromir, or a Fissure to recruit the Cave Troll hero...

Is this possible?

Thanks,

Regarding coding, I think it is. Even having buildings as prerequisites for some Hero powers as Gandalf, who need Rohan stables to have the mount Shadowfax power active. Anyway I'm not sure if it's a good idea, because Heroes are already expensive and if we need to build and/or upgrade buildings before recruiting them, they will become even more expensive and take even longer to get. I think is better to let it as it is.

yeah. it's an interesting idea, but i don't agree with it. i would rather just keep the heroes in the fortress without any other requirements.

It is possible, yes... Mollock is in the Troll Cage, at lv3, so you need to upgrade to get him. We could easily add other recuirements such as HA or whatever. But no plans at this stage. Might happen, might not. I'll think about it =p

Oh no! I didn't mean that at all!

I meant that we could try to have prerequisites to heroes (such as a Lv2 Barracks or whatever) and that would enable their build option IN THE FORTRESS.

Some time ago, I remember Nazgul wanting to put heroes like Boromir in the Gondor Barracks. The problem was that those units started at Lv10. What I'm suggesting is for heroes like Boromir, they could still be buildable from the fortress but before doing so, they would require the building of a Lv2 barracks or something... Basically, it would make the game more difficult, and more planning would be required.

The desicison lies in whether the game NEEDS to be harder...

Comprendre? :thumbsupsmiley:

It's tricky, cause you'd need to make them unavailable after the building is destroyed (probably.) You can just remove the upgrade via lua scripts when the building is destroyed, but if you have another one of the buildings, then it shouldn't remove the upgrade.

This could get kinda tricky.

But it's impossible to make the game more difficult. It always depends on who your playing against.

True, but what if we made it so once you achieve the requirements needed, the hero becomes permenantly available? Even if the building is then destroyed, you'd expect the hero to have retained his training and combat knowledge...

I just wanted to include more requirements for certain heroes, because it diversifies what buildings players build. For example, I almost never use a Gondor Barracks when I play as Men. I spam Ithilien Rangers, upgrade them with flaming arrows and lodge em in towers. I recruit all the heroes and then attack the base with catapults, heroes with more rangers for support.
The requirements require me to build a more diverse range of structures and also means that if a player wants to defend their base using heroes at the beginning, they need to actually make use of cheaper, less requirement-demanding heroes.

Also, I'm now sure its possible because Rohan heroes can't be built from the GONDOR FORTRESS until the GOLDEN HALL is built as a pre-requisite. This means, following the same rules (for destroyed buildings, reviving etc.) that the Golden Hall has, we could make more requisites of other buildings.

Yeah, that'd work quite easily with a player upgrade.

Once balance is finished, you shouldn't be able to play with archery range without the barracks... But you shouldn't only have a barracks to get Boromir, either.

Yeah, it's possible. I've done it before with some heroes.

Maybe Morgul Sorcery before getting the Nazgul? Or some beast den before being able to mount fellbeasts?

honestly, waiting for nazgul to get to lvl 8 to mount fellbeasts is a long enough wait...
heroes shouldn't have to depend on production buildings... it frustrates me that my rohirrim heroes can't mount before they get a stable.

It was a very nice idea and the last beta was also about testing those idea. I assure you that some of those concerns will be addressed.

Yeah, we will revise most things before next release... but indeed it's possible - and like you said, Rohan heroes require Golden Hall to be built, etc. The question weather it'sgood or not is debateable I guess =p
