This mod aims for realistic gameplay right?

Then why is every hero ressurectable? Wouldn't it be more true to the movies and to the lore if heroes could die and not be ressurectable except Gandalf and the ringwraiths. That way every hero is important, and you can't just recklessly run into the enemy fortress with a bunch of overpowered heroes?

Think about it, when all the heroes in each team are dead you just got units left to fight with. That is why it's important to protect the heroes and not use them as tanks and instead as supportive heroes for soldiers and sometimes fight if necessary?

What do you think, is it too realistic?

heroes are meant to be special and unique from regular units in that they CAN be resurrectable. it would be taking away a major part of gameplay for them to be mortal. i understand where you're coming from though. it would be realistic, but perhaps too realistic to enjoy playing with the heroes

True death is something that works wonderfully in concept but is very difficult to succesfully implement in any type of game. Realism should work as a fun factor in order to be a feature and not a burden. In the chaotic nature of Real Time Strategy, it's simply impossible to keep any unit alive and functional for a lengthy period of time without excessive micro-management. You're welcome to try and keep your hero units alive through all the match (I always do!), but you'll find that in hard and brutal maps, or matches against other players, this is sometimes impossible.

I think this is one of those cases where you can easily make your own rules instead of hard coding them and thereby frustrating many players. It is simply a matter of never reviving your fallen heroes. The AI won't be shy about it, nor will it ever be clever enough to use them as wisely as you do.

I had a thought... similar to this topic, but on units...

This is just a random thought, but what if we kept units from respawning? Simply remove the "schiiing - and you have a new fresch unit", and make it necessary to return to base in order to fill your ranks again. It would make it a lot more realistic, and it would motivate me more to shorten "build times" for hordes =p We could still have a unit in the horde replace the fallen BC (just like in old time warefare), but simply remove the extra added unit that comes from nowhere. To counterweigh this, we could increase battalions from standard of 15 to 20 (5+5+5+5)...

I think we could get the AI to use this system too, kind of like how they already retrait their heroes when they are badly damaged.
Well, this is just a thought :p

Good idea Naz! Perhaps when they come within radius of the fortress, they start to hea (if they have banner carrier of course) or anywhere on the map whenever they are near a healing structure.

Its chance of survival at this critical moment is minute, yet it fights on, against the unforgiving cold, against the depths of night and against its mortal enemy: rain.

yeah it makes sense that the banner carriers would only be able to recruit new guys at the base.

if you are increasing battalion size (like adding an extra row to each battalion), keep the anti-hero hordes to only two rows. that way they feel more elite. they should probably be more powerful as well.

When your heroes die in battle, why not think of it as them falling unconcious? Just pretend that they aren't really dead and some invisible guys came round to pick him up and bring him back to the fortress. :p

To have a somewhat lasting effect, i am figuring out a cumbersome technique to let their SpecialPowers start uncharged. I hate it when heroes revive faster than their powers. :p

Is it possible to make them kind of like the One Ring system? In that when a hero dies they kind of leave behind their "corpse" or unconscious body and it needs to be taken back to base by your own units so that it can be revived. If you don't it will just remain there until you come to get it.

There could be some kind of symbol similar to the floating ring which indicates that this is the heroes body/soul whatever you want to call it.
