The #0 color is for empty pixel. #1 is for shadows. #15 is for lights (like the ones on tanks). #16 up to #31 are for remap. My question is: do any other color get special treatment by the game or not? Is there any special logic assigned to any other number?

IIRC colors 240-255 are not affected (or are affected in different way) by map lighting, as they are displayed in normal light even on dark maps. This is, for buildings atleast. Probably applies to infantry too. For voxels, I think those colors do not work at all and results to them being replaced by bright pink/blue (can't remember which one) ingame.

Yeah voxels won't use the new colors except for top surface, else uses original colors.
