arcade crash

I have recently mdownloaded the Arcade Edition, but have found that the game.dat file stops it from running, I have read somewhere about a application data folder, but there is none on my computer, My computer runs on vista, which may be the problem, but I was wondering if there was any idea as to how to fix it
