I agree that the feel of the FotR movie would've been very different with Bombadil in it, but I don't think that's a bad thing. I really miss the kind of ''country-fantasy'' that the book has.

I do not. I think a bit realism in a movie is never misplaced. If I want fantasy, I'll go watch Barby.

yeah, don't think they'd mess Bombadil up, still... when you see FotR, it's pretty much filled up quite nicely.. in terms of content and length, it's almost perfect
If they had Bombadil aswell, they must also have had the old forest, and should've had Frodo's journey to the forest from his home, which took some time.. unlike the movies portrayal ;)

Then again, the movies doesn't portray the actual timeline very well.. you don't know that there's 17 years between Gandalf's depart and return for example.. so yeah

Oh, and you last post Matias; Word

Somehow I was thinking about this and I remembered some things.

My first exposure to Tolkien was the 1978 cartoon version of the hobbit. It was quite interesting. Of course, it was a 1978 cartoon, so it had some lame animation and some strange songs, and the whole look of the thing just screams late seventies. But it was an interesting contrast to the modern films, as far as some of the things being discussed here (lore accuracy and whatnot.)

It wasn't extremely accurate to the lore but I guess less of Tolkien's works had been published at that time. There aren't actual contradictions to the Hobbit itself, but I wouldn't guess they did research in other books for anything. But the elves are really a lot like Tolkien's elves, and stuff like that. From a plot standpoint, the hobbit makes a better movie than LotR. They stuck to the story pretty well, unless they had good reason not to (usually for time, they'd combine a few conversations into one scene or something,) and they cut out some stuff of course. Beorn wasn't in it at all, which was probably a fine decision.

The whole look of it really seem like Tolkien's world to me, when I watch it now, but I suppose if all I used for reference was the Hobbit itself, it probably wouldn't either. Gollum and the Goblins are quite odd. Elrond has a beard, which is quite disturbing. The Elves are altogether too ugly. One think that bugs me is how the dwarven armor (and most of the armor in it,) including Bilbo's Mithril shirt, was all platemail. Quite strange, indeed.

Those are the types of things that weren't messed up a lot in the new films. The look of a lot of it was fairly accurate, though the armor wasn't real great. But the elves look like they should and stuff like that. The pronunciation is quite good, they were very careful not to mispronounce anything, which I'm glad of.

Anyway, just sorta comparing. I'll be interested to compare the new hobbit films to the cartoon.

The cartoon isn't that great for lore reference, but it's good for fantasy inspiration. Some of my original fantasy works are somewhat inspired by the things in that movie that weren't accurate to the lore. The Return of the King one they made later doesn't have the same nostalgic value for me, so I'm not as inspired by it, but it wasn't altogether bad. I don't like the LotR cartoon someone else made about that time, though. It was rather nasty.
Greetings, community.

Ooh! Good thing I got an Xbox360 this Christmas or I wouldn't be able to try it, as the other console I have is a PS2.

Of course I could play it on PC, but I don't want to. :p I like consoles better. :p

Is there any news about the characters or gameplay?

What about a link to where he found it, Mirk? :p

I thought I'd make the Sunday point and then you'd do the link thing. Or didn't I make that clear with telepathy?
