Well folks, after doing a bit of lurking around many forums I've manage to string together a nice bit of news for you to take a gander at, all summed up neatly for you to pick at. And some spotlight for mods which have caught my attention. Enjoy.

EA NEWS

Command and Conquer 4

CnC4

1. Latest artwork and unit info to be released; The Nod Crawler. Behemoth of a Mech! Check out the site each week for more updates of units that will be available in CnC 4 (follow link)... When will the battle end? Who knows...

2. Good ol' Tiberian has been reworked in CnC4. No longer will you harvest giant fields of it.

Now, on a side note, just some other gaming news (non-CnC guild related) I thought was worth mentioning as it has caught my eye in the last week...just a few things I feel deserve a bit of spotlight!

Team Fortress 2

Demoman and Soldier updates released a few days ago. Check it out on the site. Also some news of how bots are going to be refined.

Natural Selection 2

That’s right. The popular HL mod is returning...set to be released spring next year. The teaser trailers and artwork have left me very impressed! The engine is built entirely from scratch. Work is going fast and it’s shaping up to be a fantastic game. Check the site for regular updates.

With all due respect, I think that new Tiberium idea in C&C4 isn't worth a cent.

I'm not talking about the idea as such. Controlling special points on the map as tech buildings that generate resources can be a great move if you want to focus more on ground control, map domination, etc. Especially if you combine it with certain topographic concepts like bridges, choke points, etc.
The idea of grabbing a precious item with the possibility to destroy it and cause damage in a wide area is interesting as well, it certainly requires more sophisticated tactics than "I was first and got it, now you lose".

But none of that fits into the C&C franchise. Tell me what you want, but it simply doesn't.
C&C4 seems to have very little to do with "C&C" in general. Of course I'm aware that franchises should evolve and such but if you change every core aspect people have come to expect from a franchise it's simply deceiving them. They should call it "our random new RTS 4" instead of "C&C4". Probably product management thought it would be smarter to slap the title of a successful series onto the game than trying to market the game from scratch.

Let's hope that at least the game for itself will be nice or they'll ruin the name of C&C further. Let's pray that at some point EA(LA) will change course to quality games and give their developers enough time to actually finish a game completely instead of forcing them to release in a beta state while already working on the add-on. Then I would also buy their products again. But maybe that's too much to ask for in a time where game development is more and more moving away from "art" to "commercialised entertainment item".

Well I completely agree. IMO the beta is quite fun (although gets old pretty fast), however its just not C&C... its the worst place to do a franchise changing game as well (end of the current tiberian storyline). The whole domination style of gameplay will probably severely limit missions, and make them boring and repetitive (theres a YouTube video walkthrough of one mission, and its just like multiplayer...).

IMO they should have created their own background, factions and storyline to go with this tournament and cartoony style (whatever happened to C&C4 being much grittier than before?!).

I didn't think much of it. I absolutely loved harvesting ore, gold, tiberian, resources., spice.. whatever... in the CnC series. It was brilliant. To me that is what makes it CnC. Controlling the resources, spreading your base out and harvesting it all to build a giant army. Letting it be an autonomic system was brilliant... it just got on and did its job of gathering the resources to fund your war effort.

I still feel that Yuri's Revenge is one of the best RTS to grace the gaming scene.

I still remember how frustrating it was when your harvester or your refinery was destroyed. It basically made your army grind to a halt.
