Found this poking around Petroglyphs forums for something else.

http://www.lucasarts...1_1.html#ramfix

This file fixes an issue when running Forces of Corruption on a 64-bit OS that has greater than 2GB of RAM. Please note that this does not include previous game patches, and you should still ensure you that install the other patches before running this update.

I didn't notice this get announced on the boards but thought our Vista users might wish to know.

Me, I'm just running 32bit XP so I don't think that this helps me...

Part of me is tempted to try this despite having 32bit vista because there's been times I've had comp issues that I did searches for and the solution was presented but it claimed this was a problem with 64 bit....still, I tried the fixes, and they worked.

Uh, even then, before I try this I'm going to wait for other people's input.

I just made the switch from Vista 32 to 64. But before I did I upgraded my RAM to 4 GB and gave the patch a try. It works fine on 32 bits systems.

If it's hard then it's worth doing.

Goldorak m'aidera. Au besoin, j'irai jusqu'au camp de la Lune Noire

détruirai.

I bought a new Desktop last year and it was stock with 6gb of ram... call Lucasarts and they said the gold edition of the game would work... (I had both EAW and EAW FOC in their repesctive cases) so i went to best buy then went home then bam failed... :( so i figured this is the end to me and EAW but now that you have shown me this this week cannot get any better... ;)

hate to bump but this ram fix does work. Gold has the patches up to the standard 1.1 patch but not the ram fix so you still have to dl the ram fix patch. Works for Windows 7 As well

Do you know if there's a difference in version number with the RAM fix installed and without?

If I remember correctly, when I installed it, the only change I could find was the addition of an XML entry at the bottom of the Game Constants file. The EXE remained untouched.

The reason I asked is that Ive just purchased the Steam version of the game and I'm curious if it already has the 64bit OS RAM patch applied or not. I was not able to install the patch but the error message did not say anything about that it had already been applied or that is was a wrong version. I'll see if I can get the last line of my game constants xml when I get home. Maybe you can confirm that it's the same line.

It adds it to the main FoC folder, I believe. I don't remember if there were any other XMLs that it altered.

The line is something like <Value>*Hex code or something*</Value>.

There are no human readable files in the main dir as far as I've discovered. In the Data folder I've found config.meg which has
<Hack_Super_Weapon_Cost> 50000.0 </Hack_Super_Weapon_Cost>

</GameConstants>
in the last 2 lines.

:p A-whaa?

Hmmm...Interesting. I distinctly remember seeing that <Value> line after installing it, and I do remember the value for it being x0000... . Maybe I'll install again and see what's up.

EDIT: Yep, just did it again. C:\Program Files (x86)\LucasArts\Star Wars Empire at War Forces of Corruption\Data\XML, two XML files called GAMECONSTANTS.XML and GRAPHICDETAILS.XML. The message of the day was changed from a web address to an IP address, and the last line of the file now reads <Value>00003f?UtT</Value>. The Graphics Details is Mike.nl's fix from a while back I believe. Those are the only edits in the entire FoC directory, as far as I can tell.

It seems the structure and files have been changed quite a bit in the steam release. There are no loose xml files just very large files that do contain some data that looks like xml and a lot of gibberish as well. Guess we'll never know. Although the steam version runs just fine on win 7 64bit with 4GB RAM. PR runs a lot less smooth though, even the lite maps seem to be a challenge for my pc. Probably because of the lousy cpu (q8200).

They're packed up into MEGs in vanilla retail as well; it's just most mods that have them loose, as you say.
