Not to mention that you can abuse it... I once had a 'female' World of Warcraft character. 'She' got all kinds of nice stuff from other players.
It has been reported that some victims of rape, during the act, would retreat into a fantasy world from which they could not WAKE UP. In this catatonic state, the victim lived in a world just like their normal one, except they weren't being raped. The only way that they realized they needed to WAKE UP was a note they found in their fantasy world. It would tell them about their condition, and tell them to WAKE UP. Even then, it would often take months until they were ready to discard their fantasy world and PLEASE WAKE UP

@ Matias: Fair point, but it is correct in that the kind of women I would enjoy talking to on the internet are not the kind of women who enjoy being objectified simply because of their gender. Then again, I am hopelessly attracted to strong women. Maybe it's just a personal thing.
I hope I am a good enough writer that some day dwarves kill me and drink my blood for wisdom.

Rob, I meant you've posted your gender definitively before, not an actual picture :p

Alright, check the image below. It's something that we can use as a reference. Sex, gender, and sexual orientation all exist on three separate and independent spectrums. On each spectrum, a person can place where they are anywhere on the line. Note that this is somewhat simplified as some say they're asexual or what not, which is not on the graph. Also, a person can identity with neither gender (also not on the graph). Just keep in mind that the charts are not absolute nor perfect. It's mostly just some concepts.

Sex- All biological stuff. There can be variation in this category. Intersex does not necessarily mean you have both a penis and a vagina. It can mean that a person was born with a penis but produces primarily female hormones which enlarges the breasts, etc. Vice versa for someone born with a vagina. These characteristics can be changed through surgery and hormone therapy. Some people call those who change sexes transsexuals.

Gender - This is entirely socially constructed. It is society's roles and values of what it is to be a "man" or what it is to be a "woman". People that do not match society's view can be generally called transgendered (it can also be referred to transsexuals too though). Gender and its values can vary form culture to culture and even person to person.

Sexual orientation - Your sexual preferences and desires. Again, I did not include asexual in it but it would also be included in another chart. Some argue you are born with your sexual orientation while others argue it is a socially constructed process.

So, a person can identity their sex as male, their gender as more feminine than masculine, and their sexual orientation as mostly heterosexual. This would be me. Now, how would you identity yourself?

A final note: Very few things are black and white. Unfortunately, our society views sex, gender, and sexual orientation that way. Many actually probably fall in some sort of "gray" area between the lines and categories (or not in the line at all). :p

Yes, but where exactly on the line? Are you completely masculine (all the way on the left side for gender)? Or do you move to the right a little bit?

What's the definition of masculine and feminine? What would one consider 100% masculine and what 100% feminine?
