Hey, I have a conceptual question: if a book is written as science fiction and set in a year which then passes, does it remain science fiction or does it become alternate history? (Extrapolated from Paulzy's mention of 1984.)

I guess it wouldn't hurt to give BSG a look at some point, then. Probably when I get back to my parents' house and have a much faster internet connection. ;)
I hope I am a good enough writer that some day dwarves kill me and drink my blood for wisdom.

Well we call that movie 2012 science fiction, though there are people dumb enough to believe it. But if The War of the Worlds came true, it wouldn't be science fiction; it would be the bible for the squrily people out there who think Tom Cruise foretold the future...

....What? 1984 is a book, Pasi.

Also, we call those people scientologists. Then we laugh heartily at their expense.
I hope I am a good enough writer that some day dwarves kill me and drink my blood for wisdom.

I know it's a book... I didn't say it wasn't. In fact, I didn't mention it.

Even if they are right, I'll make fun of them.

My favorite sci-fi series has to be the ghost in the shell movies and Tv-series. Anime but still good.

Live action sci-fi... not much that springs to mind beyond BSG, haven't watched Firefly so I can't comment on that (got the fan-phobia, people are insane about it so I rather not go insane myself).

Star Trek TNG is all in all cool. nothing like Picard running around like some Hamlet actor on a sci-fi show ;)
