Now I hope I didn't make any of you facepalm with that topic title, But I got an itch to embed Unity projects into the forums, so that we can quickly show off stuff we make in the unity3dforums for testing and feedback. And the best way to ask for something is to shamelessly ask out loud :thumbsupdrool:

Anyway, here is a test I've made that works fine with the approximately minimum of code needed. Here is the unity site's info on embedding if it proves necessary. I had some problems getting that first embedding to load the unity-file, but I can't say why.

Now, if we want to make this more tricky, I could request the ability to change the width and height and perhaps the value of the disableContextMenu, but it's strictly a bonus. I'd be happy with those settings I got in the testfile there. i'm guessing the forum code should look at the minimum something like this: [unity3d]http://www.h3da.no/uploadDiv/unity/cameraTest.unity3d[/unity3d].

And now, a final apology for my rudeness of requesting all these things: If you get this one up and running I'll be a happy camper and won't ask for another big thing this month*!!

I'm not too fond of the idea to embed arbitrary stuff into the forum's markup. Can't I just give you some webspace and you upload the stuff there?

Naturally that is the alternative, though it would have been cool to have the opportunity to add it to the forums. But as you say, its quite arbitrary and prolly won't see much use outside the unity3d forums.

I just don't like it security-wise, as it gives every user the ability to embed his code and possibly exploit bugs in the plugin (for those who have it). Flash is pretty well-tested in terms of security and still exploited from time to time. I don't want to know what's possible through Unity...

Is it such a hassle to upload to your site and post a link instead of having it in a forum thread?

No it won't be a big problem. As you say it's not easy to be secure about everything if you start accepting every little piece of code, and after all, its not standardized as youtube or vimeo is which is excuse enough. I am not yet very knowledgeable about the opportunities unity has to do things with the computer its running on. It has the possibility to run c++ plugins and custom written things outside of the main program(importing/exporting/configuring textures and objects, streaming data from databases), so for someone with the knowledge in both unity and generic hacking its probably very possible to get into a computer.
