Has anyone ever thought of making a Wiki for modding?

We worked on that for T3A, but it turned out that just installing a MediaWiki wasn't going to suit our needs. The T3A Article System (current t3a site) evolved from that idea.

For specific networks and more specific games with a decent community it can work. Trying a more general approach however does not .You'll find it gets flooded with accidental 'noob' vandelism and a lot of inexperienced people writing articles that are not helpful, or in many cases counter-helpful as they misinform. Keeping such a wiki in any decent state takes an enormous moderation effort.

And is probably very boring to do.

Maybe if modding was actually similar between the many, many games out there having this general 'modding wiki' would work. But it seems that you don't realise this is not the case. Modding is very different depending on what game you are editing.

But this could work well, as long we make the editing availiable just for the modders.

kudos to Pasidon for this awesome avvy and siggy!

But also, at least for the earlier C&C games, this has already been done.

Well...i fully support this idea...A BIG Wikia where the modders would edit and non-modders would learn...the moderating wouldn't be necessary:

- We just give accounts to "Modders".
- If someone would like to edit the wikia, he should contact us and he shall make him an account.

It looks simple and effective :p And it would draw a lot of attention to Revora. The first BIG Modding Wikia.

kudos to Pasidon for this awesome avvy and siggy!

The team at Fallout Studios are currently undergoing a project that looks at Generals and ZH modding that will hopefully provide a full and complete list of all information for modders of the games. We've already started collecting and backing up as many of the tutorials available that we can find. This is only the first part of the project atm.

The idea being that they will end up on our community wiki or site. For the time being the resources are being held or linked here.

Obviously it's a pretty big project so any help would be appreciated. It will be extended to include CnC3 and RA3 once the Gen/ZH content has been taken care of.

You people want a Wiki based around mods? Wales would be rolling over in his cadillac over that. Wikis are supposed to be topic intelligence shit and being a modderator over at Wikipedia I know how much the staff hates fan made junk and eventually we have to deal with these little wikies all around the damn internet since regular squares stop managing after a day. I dont mean to hex you guys but stuff like this is brought up every day and it never works out.

Ah, I think it's necessary to differentiate here. They're talking about a wiki for modding, which is not the same thing as a wiki for mods. A wiki for mods would be like a glorified ad site, and generally be duplicating the mod pages function we already have on most of our division sites.
They're talking about a wiki that documents the ins and outs of modding. Example.
Not that I'm that really in favour of more modding wikis popping up around the place, at least for C&C - ModEnc does a good enough job.

I get you now. The dummies guide to moding. Some people made a stupid wood carvers Wiki and got away with it so I dont see why this shouldnt work. Wish I had this back when I was tinkering with Morrowind. If you guys start one Ill support it.
