I just wanted to make a sort of thread about all the earthquakes and now volkano eruptions we've had the last few months.
12january, Haiti earthquake, bunch of people dead, although that is to be expected in a hellhole like Haiti. 230 000 dead
Qinghai china,april 14, 400 dead.
Chile, February 27, 427 dead
Turkey, march 8, 50 dead.

Now in my opinion thats quite a few earthquakes in a short amount of time. and now we have an volcanic eruption on Iceland at Eyjafjallajökull. Causing air traffic in Northern Europe to be put on a standstill. (Hilarious thing about the insurance companies here now, because they refuse to pay out insurances to people that have lost their flights because they got natural disaster insurance, but this is a indirect natural disaster :D). This leads me to the conclusion that mother earth is having a bad year, and for those neurotic hopefuls out there, this might be the beginning of 2012 doomsday, although i highly doubt it.

Can't we, like, duct tape the earthplates to eachother so that they won't earthquake again? You know, like we reduce CO2 to prevent the Earth from getting warmer?
It has been reported that some victims of rape, during the act, would retreat into a fantasy world from which they could not WAKE UP. In this catatonic state, the victim lived in a world just like their normal one, except they weren't being raped. The only way that they realized they needed to WAKE UP was a note they found in their fantasy world. It would tell them about their condition, and tell them to WAKE UP. Even then, it would often take months until they were ready to discard their fantasy world and PLEASE WAKE UP

Nah, I'd rather build earthquake-safe buildings in the exposed areas.

Not much we can do about it no, and I rather we didn't fix earthquakes, because the easiest way to fix earthquakes would probably be through "freezing" the core so it wouldnt move around so much. Alas, I'd guess that would give you a globe looking like this: Posted Image, with ice in the cracks.

Also, Eyjafjallajökull had a glacier on it, GONE NOW. but it probably was a pretty noobish glacier, not many years of ice lost there. Geez, stupid glaziers don't know where to start growing, volcanoes are not a good place to last millenia.

Anyway, I figured I'd go out now and literary "smell the ashes". Not everyday you can do that :p

edit: found a very nice picture of the volcano on a newsite

now if that ain't a sign then i don't know what is :D

@allathar: If duck tape could fix that then I really will admit that it can fix ANYTHING..

Hmph, why are there always people who wish for the world to end? There were 4000 years ago, and there are today. If you feel things are bad, then do something instead of crying in the corner.

This isn't directed to anyone here, I just expressed my opinion. Oh, and big natural catastrophes happen every now and then, it's not like nature is going to revenge us or anything :D

You know... I visited a quarry today... climbed up a sand dune and found myself a nice glacial deposit that is about 1.6 billion years old. 1.6 billion years later... The Earth isn't going anywhere in a hurry.
