Not all races are capable of communicating with other races. Races are divided into Spheres of Communication. They are broken down according to the way races talk, make gestures, and signal one another to relay their ideas.
Using the same method I use for many things. Spheres of communication are broken into the same 5 catagories as most things:
A(lpha)
B(eta)
G(amma)
D(elta)
E(psilon)
How do sentient beings communicate?
Alpha - Races operating the the Alpha sphere are the most common and capable of communicating among themselves and are the set standard for trade languages and social etiquette.
Beta - Races operating in the Beta sphere mingle freely with Alpha sphere though some problems do occur. They are the second most common sphere and even dominate many areas.
Gamma - Another common sphere that often overlays Alpha and Beta spheres, these beings often feel above the beings they cannot communicate with effectively and likewise greatly respect beings of another sphere that can communicate with them.
Delta - A rather bizarre sphere, beings of this sphere have trouble communicating with themselves and often rely on technology to break the barriers. Many of these beings change their dialect frequently and from generation to generation makiing it difficult to emulate.
Epsilon - The special sphere is reserved for obsure races and isolated individuals. Because of their inability to exchange ideas, these beings tend to remain out of touch with outsiders.
Humans are Alpha, while Silicoids are Gamma. How does a carbon based lifeform communicate with living silicon based lifeform? Very carefully.
