God, I hope they get someone else good to cover for him. If the Hobbit film turns out rubbish, or indeed anything less than brilliant, their entire original fanbase will never forgive them.
I hope I am a good enough writer that some day dwarves kill me and drink my blood for wisdom.

All because MGM is in financial trouble. Somebody give these guys a bag of money!
Or more seriously, why don't they take a loan? Everybody knows these movies will earn far more than they'll cost.

This might cheer you up.

I considered linking to a Rick Roll, but that would hardly be sporting when there's real news.

That is good news, but I hope they decide against making it in 3D. It doesn't really add anything and would clash horrendously with the general feel and setting of Middle Earth.

I agree. 3D doesn't really add much to movies... except more potential for a headache in the theater.

The only problem with 3-D is the movie makers tend to focus on that when making the movie. I saw Avatar in 3-D, it was great but too much emphasize of making stuff fly out at you.

Precisely. The point of Avatar was the graphics, and in fairness, they were amazing. The point of The Hobbit will not be the graphics. All they'd use it for would be making fire come out of Smaug's mouth right in your face and the occasional arrow, but in spite of that, you'd have to sit through the whole film with irritating glasses on your face and a slowly developing migraine. 3D won't last, not unless they can make it a hell of a lot better than it is at the moment.

Yeah , 3D is not really my type , classic movies are better .

Dunno what to say tho , I'm glad if Peter Jackson gets back on the directing chair .

Gandalf getting impatient??

With news swirling about Peter Jackson's return to the director's chair for The Hobbit, new stories are beginning to come out that seem to suggest that the project might be unraveling. Peter Jackson still can not confirm whether the production of the film is set in stone; jobs in Wellington are starting to evaporate as movie production slumps.

However, of greater concern to many enthusiasts of the Lord of the Rings films is the fact that Sir Ian McKellen may be running out of patience with the project. In an interview, McKellen was quoted as saying:

I think this all is kind of a publicity stunt. Everyone knows that The Hobbit movie will be a huge money maker. By having Del Toro and Ian McKellen threatening to jump the boat completely, the movie executives should hopefully get their act together and start moving this project along.
