I was in the middle of playing a skirmish, Empire vs. ARR when I heard the message "Hypervelocity Gun Destroyed". After the battle, on the losses page, there was a Hypervelocity gun on my side, listed as a loss.

It's a kind of known issue. There's something up with map markers or something.

Last I heard, no one was sure what exactly was up though.

One of the inexplicable bugs in the game. It seems to happen when you explode an area-effect weapon in proximity of the map origin. Since that's where dynamic markers would be placed, I'm guessing that such a marker - specifically for the hypervelocity gun - is somehow not flagged as unattackable/indestructible. It could even be what ships are shooting at when they're seemingly shooting at nothing. That's a lot of guessing though.
