I've been reading up on ISDs again, and I've come across an interesting variant: A refitted Imperiar I-class Star Destroyer.

Here's a screenie:

http://images3.wikia...and_escorts.jpg

Visually it looks like the refitted ship has some of the alterations applied to the ISD-II command tower, namely the repositioning of the antenna thing. It's primary weaponry looks to be identical to that of the production ISD-I. Maybe part of the refit also reworked the TIE squadrons to be identical to those of the ISD-II?

Is it possible to have ship "upgrades" in game, where you can take an existing ISD-I and upgrade it to "refit" status? Might be an interesting angle to give obsolete ships a little longer life.

Refit Imperial Is are indistinguishable from Imperial IIs. See Tyrant, which clearly has heavy octuples. It's not possible to upgrade individual ships without clogging the interface.

I'd say some refit ISD-Is were definitely distinguishable from ISD-IIs. If you look at the link I posted, that ISD has the command tower of a II and the main turrets of a I.

If you don't know what ship that is, how do you know it's been refit? I don't think you can conclusively say those are double turrets from that shot.

It's identified as a refit Imperial I-class in the description.

There's not a solid way to introduce a system to upgrade existing ships to greater levels, unfortunately.

Well pout!

Maybe put in an intermediate ISD variant in between the I and II. Imperial Ib-class maybe? To represent the refit?

Why? Refitted ISD-I's are probably not that common. It also messes up the upgrade tree. We have 4 varaints of each capital and destroyer, each significantly better than the last. half upgrades throw the whole concept into confusion.

Wookieepedia isn't always accurate... I'll believe it when I see the source. I can't think of anything that would identify that unknown star destroyer as being a refit Imp I rather than a plain Imp II though. As far as I know, they all used the Avenger model.

There are ISD-I refits, but they are so comparable to the ISD-II that it really isn't worth the trouble.

Exactly. It's like saying the Tantive IV isn't a "real" CR90, only a refit CR70. Essentially, it's both.

I was under the impression the refit ISD-1 just had the new comm tower and some internal stuff. I thought it retained the double-barreled turbolasers of a normal ISD.

It is hard to tell, though the Chimaera is one of the refit ISDI's, and it as labeled as an ISDII on Wookieepedia. That leads me to believe that refits have the octuple barbette turbolasers too.

Sounds like we just call them ISD-II's and be done with it!

Agreed, clearly not worth the trouble.
