My girlfriend's little brother Jonathan.

"My little brother Jonathan has Cerebral Palsy, a really rare type. He’s missing his Cerebellum completely, which is the part of your brain that controls all coordination, motor skills, and impulse. When he was born, we were told that he would never even be able to roll over on his own, let alone walk, or even talk. Here he is at six years old, able to speak very well, crawl, stand, read&write, and even walk (with a little help). A few months ago the Make-A-Wish Foundation decided to grant a wish of his: To have his own play set in our yard. This Friday, that wish is going to come true for him. He will be picked up from his regular physical therapy at noon by a limo, and driven to the local police station. He’ll get a tour, and then get to drive around town in a cruiser, sirens and everything. The limo will then take him out for icecream, and then to the fire station. He’ll get another tour, and the chance to ride around in a fire truck, again with all the bells and whistles.

While he has this adventure, the U.S. Navy will be at my house, setting up his new playset, which is a HUGE wooden ship with a swingset attached to the side. Jonathan will arrive back at home to be greeted by the Navy, all in complete uniform. A huge ceremony will take place, in which he is given a U.S. Flag, and made into an honorary captain of his new ship!

This will be followed by an enormous Make-A-Wish party, with guests including the Navy, Jonathan’s friends, our whole family, all of his workers, and pretty much anybody our family is at least acquainted with.

I love my brother so much. He’s worked so hard to get where he has and I’m so excited to see him able to enjoy such a wonderful day, and to get his biggest wish in the world."

That's awesome for him
It has been reported that some victims of rape, during the act, would retreat into a fantasy world from which they could not WAKE UP. In this catatonic state, the victim lived in a world just like their normal one, except they weren't being raped. The only way that they realized they needed to WAKE UP was a note they found in their fantasy world. It would tell them about their condition, and tell them to WAKE UP. Even then, it would often take months until they were ready to discard their fantasy world and PLEASE WAKE UP

I heard of cases like that. The incognitive portions of your brain become a mimic to the portion of the mind that's missing... cranial synapses. Cool beans.

Not to be a downer, but I despise the 'Make a Wish Foundation'. All they exist to do is enable people who have difficulty living normal lives, to do something that people living normal lives cannot, whilst not actually doing anything to improve their actual quality of life at all.

All that money wasted could easily have gone into research into improving the lives of people with debilitating or life threatening diseases instead.
