Well,I'm intending to try out a Linux as soon as I'll get a new computer.Don't know if I'll go with it forever, but I can simply try.

I'm mostly going to use the following applications:

-Photoshop
-3dsmax
-FL Studio(Unless Ardour will show off not that good.)
-and a couple of games.IIRC there was WINE(?) which was some sort of emulator as far as I understand.Right?...

Also was curious which one should I choose, since I heard of stuff like Ubuntu,KDE,and honestly I got no idea...Tho OpenOffice should work with all of them, right?

You're likely going to have to run WINE no matter what since some of those applications don't have a Linux equivalent, but most should run fine under WINE.

I'd choose Ubuntu. Because it looks like Windows - it's more user-friendly.

But as Beowulf said you'll need Windows to run these programs. OpenOffice should run fine.

Linux needs more games =) The guy who starts making them will be rich...

I just got back from an open-source software convention, so i can quote a gamer that i met there:

When 50% of all Windows's Games run in Linux, All gamers would use Linux.

-Photoshop
-3dsmax

Use Windows? :thumbsdownsmiley:
According to the AppDB only 3DS 2008 works ok-ish, and newer versions are "Garbage". Photoshop is rated "Silver".

I love Linux, but for these applications it's not the perfect OS (yet).

One word:

NO.

Also,I saw the WINE things.Tho I got 3dsmax 9(NOT 2009/2010).I got PS CS2.

And I will just take Linux for a couple of tests. Not forever, unless I find it to work flawless.Tho after how many of the stuff sound like,i doubt it.

I'll continue using XP after this experiment, even if XP x86 will be annoying(I plan to have 4GB of RAM,but it will be reduced to 3.2 or so.)

A new computer with Windows XP? You couldn't make a worse choice :thumbsdownsmiley:

Is Windows 98 better?

Well,a mix of 2 bad habits in this family:

1.Never buy a Windows unless it goes to SP2
2.Don't buy Vista,since W7 is better.

The two unfortunately contradict.Surprisingly,I got games who are compatible with Vista, but are not with 7,which is annoying.Same for other applications. But,I still hope compatibility mode will fix it all.I just hope I won't have issues when installing stuff.
