I've modeled up Laser general's new tech center. there are a few more details that will be added, but it's nearly complete as is.

When you first build it, it looks like this:

When you choose your tech trees addon's will snap onto it. With 6 of the 8 tech trees it looks like this:

The observant, and even the not so, will notice the skin is a place holder only. I've put 2 different skins on this model and I'm not happy with them at all. If any of you feel like you could use W3D viewer and photoshop to edit the attached TGA's you have a chance to rescue this wayward structure. Myself I'm taking a break from it for a few days and will be working on other sub-projects.

If more than 1 reply is given I will look for the best of the crop, or possibly combine it with others (should they both have good features).

the second texture file has a huge amount of free space in it... I'm not at 100% on this model and am saving room for a new additions.

Between now and the next polished release there should be very little new art work done. Instead the focus is on designing, testing, and fixing. the mod has always been so close to finished that its nearly criminal. I'd love to see this through to the end with a real community effort.

If i was any good at skinning, i would give it a go. But saddly i wouldnt know where to begin.

The model looks great though, i really like how it looks. It would fit in very nicely with Laser's current set of units and general theme.

I understand no one trying the skin, that's expected. The weak part was that no one even replied at all.

I didn't reply because I thought this area was specifically for someone to respond on a skin job, due to the first post. When I believe my input is needed or wanted I give it. Had I known you were looking for a skinner AND input... I woulda posted! :p

The lab itself is a pretty sweet concept, I like the modular approach and would like to see something similar in some of the other tech tree driven generals. It's just an example but the AF gen has a "tech" building (escalation 1, I think), then a specific building for VTOL. Expanding on that for AF and other generals could be pretty cool. Again, modular buildings based on player choice is pretty sweet, keep up the awesome ideas.
Ugh, why can't you just DIE? Seriously.

That's awesome drake. Sure, it could use some work, it's very dark, but that doesn't matter much because it's a fantastic first attempt.

Here is the Physics Lab with a brighter skin, partly, some parts are still the old shade for comparison.

The structure looks good, however i would recommend you add a foundation and fencing, like the original USA structures have
(for reference: http://img503.images...creengui4kd.jpg)

You see how they have the building, but then they also have the base's foundation extending around it slightly, as well as the fences added around in parts on some.
Your one on the other hand just has the structure without the extended foundation.

I just think adding it would look good and help blend it nicely with existing buildings.

Atleast that's not my deal cause I don't know anything about modelling, I was just given the texture and tried to make sth out of it.
But yes Pend should have a look at it;) (Hint Hint)

well, a larger foundation area would be easy to do, but a fence becomes tricky... I know, a fence is easy to model, but that's not the problem... Look at picks of the upgraded Physics lab, and then add 3 more upgrades *around* the Lab, and you can see the problem... in any direction the lab can extend 10% to 20% in size. The fence couldn't begin to hug the building the way the others do, and framing the entire base area of the lab wouldn't have the same visual appeal as what was intended.

I'll see if I can get a fully upgraded version of the Lab in game just for the screenshot. Then you'll see what I mean about it would be tough to fence in properly.

I know, I don't need a fence, a lager base would be good none the less

Yeah, you don't need the fence. It was just another feature i noticed on USA buildings that your building didn't have. However, not all USA buildings have a fence on them, so its not like it matters if you leave it off. I was mainly thinking about it having a larger foundation/base.
