That's bizarre. And Washington DC also demands a business license as well !? These people really have lame excuses to extort money from people...

Of course, because a business license means you're making money, and making money means paying taxes :p

On the other hand, if you're losing money, you can deduct it from your normal income, at least here in Holland.
It has been reported that some victims of rape, during the act, would retreat into a fantasy world from which they could not WAKE UP. In this catatonic state, the victim lived in a world just like their normal one, except they weren't being raped. The only way that they realized they needed to WAKE UP was a note they found in their fantasy world. It would tell them about their condition, and tell them to WAKE UP. Even then, it would often take months until they were ready to discard their fantasy world and PLEASE WAKE UP

If you have to pay $300 so you can make $11... well, that doesn't make any sense.

Careful. This link is DANGEROUS. Do NOT click it. This one, however, is fine.

The moment there's money involved, you're doing business with the ad company, so it makes sense.

There should be a minimum profit limit though. Otherwise every kid mowing the neighbours' lawn is going to need a business licence soon.

That'd be an agreement between two individuals - sort of like how prostitution isn't taxed :p

You lot are looking at this from completely the wrong angle. This is the perfect way to permanently purge a load of worthless, whiny, bullshit blogs that nobody ever reads or gives a flying fuck about.

The blogger wouldn't be making any money really.
Who clicks on ads?

Blogging would be counted as a hobby though wouldn't it?
You shouldn't need a business licence to have a hobby.

Just because you shouldn't need a license for a hooby, doesn't mean you don't need a license for a hobby. First example, fishing.

Yeh, but not a business licence. You don't need a blogger's licence to blog (though you should). I do agree - at least it'd get rid of most of the nonsense blogs.

Think here you need an Australian Business Number to charge more than $100. So a kid mowing a lawn for a tenner would be fine, but since I charge near half that per hour its a must. Of course the biggest difference is probably the fact registration is free, rather than $300.
