Wondering what you all thought. Because it uses FX and filters, I can't REALLY make it look like the Milky Way. Which was my original goal and need. So I will have to go back to the drawing board and try to figure out something.

Looks pretty good to me. You could use other images as sources and then recombine/modify and compile them all to make your own galaxy if you're not happy with what you have.
Or just examine galaxy images closely to work out how you can make something that looks the same.

Your main spiral arms are too thin and numerous. Redo the galaxy on top of the original with much fatter spirals and less twirl, then overlay with screen/whatever works best and adjust the opacity of the different arms. That's what it looks like right off the bat to me at least.
