In June 2009, Del Toro revealed he had decided where to divide the story based on comments from fans about signifying a change in Bilbo's relationship with the dwarves.

Has to be my guess then, no?
He saved them, so it's all good. Either that, or it's directly after Bilbo escapes from the mountains and meets up with the dwarves again, now wearing the Ring. However that would leave way to much left for the second one I think..

Indeed. They get to Lake Town about half way through the book, I think. It seems like the mountains would be in the middle, but it's only like chapter 4.
Greetings, community.

Laketown is about 2 thirds through through book, I'll check the page... bottom of 167 is when they arrive at Laketown.

I'm reading The Hobbit right now (first time (I know, kill me now)) and Radagast is literally only mentioned as Gandalf's cousin when they meet Beorn.

Mountains are end of 1st 3rd, eagles and Beorn are middle, and Mirkwood is middle-beginning of 2nd third.

The day I read about Beorn, I started making him in my mod (Wildman model)

It is presumed that Andy Serkis (Gollum), Sir Ian McKellen (Gandalf), Cate Blanchett (Galadriel), Huge Weaving (Elrond) and, health-permitting, Sir Christopher Lee (Saruman) will reprise their roles.

There are many big parts left to announce. Dwarves Ori, Bifur and Bofur, along with Thranduil, Brand, Dain Ironfoot, Beorn and the Goblin King are the main ones left off the top of my head, whilst Radagast is rumoured to be in, despite only being mentioned in the books.

David Tenant (Bard?), James Nesbitt (Bofur) and Sylvester McCoy (Radagast) are rumoured to have a role each. Prior to today's announcement, Peter Mullan, Ewan Stewart, Gary Lewis and Gilly Gilchrist were thought to be in line for Dwarven roles.

Well, Mark Hadlow is the only one that looks like a dwarf without any make-up, but the other's will probably look well enough when maked.. up ;)

Martin Freeman certainly looks like he'll be a nice hobbit, Bilbo indeed, but I know nothing of his acting.. He's got the expression in place I believe
Like in the start of this clip\whatever, he looks like he'll make a fine hobbit.

Brilliant :) I think Martin Freeman will definitely make a great Bilbo. (Lauri:) he was in Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, and was also played Tim in the UK version of The Office.

I'm suprised at Richard Armitage as Thorin. There was a lot of talk that he would be perfect for Bard (which i can definitely see), though i'm sure he'll do okay as Thorin too.

I'm very excited to see what Bill Nighy does with Smaug.

Oh no matt! TDH (i.e. Nertea) will have to completely redo Dain and Gloin once the film comes out :p

Martin looks like what I imagined Bilbo to be (before the movies and games) so Im sure that it will turn out great.

Like _Haldir_ said. Richard Armitage would make a great Bard.

PS: This post was meant for yesterday, cant believe I forgot about it :)
Wait... what?

Thorin so looks like an elf . :)

Really!?

Take a closer look, he has a wide jaw, his nose is sharp, his brow line is firm...Way too masculine to be elf-like. ;)
Elves have an almost feminine look to them. I think he looks like a kingly dwarf.

...Although, I'm not a lore master, but I don't think dwarves ever have blue eyes. I could be wrong, but if so, I'm
sure they can fix that during editing. :p

It is presumed that Andy Serkis (Gollum), Sir Ian McKellen (Gandalf), Cate Blanchett (Galadriel), Huge Weaving (Elrond) and, health-permitting, Sir Christopher Lee (Saruman) will reprise their roles.

Oh no! :)

I don't think dwarven eyecolour has ever been discussed in the lore...

Then again, if they only have brown eyes, better to give him lenses instead of wasting many hours of fixing his eyes afterwards :)

He was in Pirates of the Caribbean as Davy Jones, Pirate Radio, Love Actually, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, and the evil vampire bloke in the Underworld series. Or you could just google him ;)

Bill Nighy was Davy Jones? I never knew that. Always liked his acting though. Did anyone see The Boat That Rocked?

I must go see Pirates of the Caribbean again; I did not know that he was in it.
I love The Boat That Rocked. Love Actually is also one of my favourite films.

Now that Peter Jackson get's to direct the movie, I'm fairly positive. Also, they are making a movie of the Hobbit, not taking random things into a movie. They've got a real pressure on them.

And get tha' fuck outta here*.. You can't compare Conquest to this at all.. EA's not making the movie, and Peter Jackson's got way to much love for his work.. Sure, lots of things will be different from the books, but you gotta do that to make a movie from a book, because they're two different things. Like a movie is different from a game. Like New Line Cinema is different from EA Games ;)

Yeah... Well you never know what may happen. I am fairly sure that it will turn out awsome, but with lower expectations it makes it better (if it sucks no prob, if its awsome, well..... it's awsome!) get what I mean?
Wait... what?
