So how's everyone? *crickets* Yeah that's what I thought...
Well anyways, I've been working on a 3-player skirmish map for a while set in the Old Forest and so far only Aragorn94 has seen parts of it. I'd like to say I've gotten a lot better at mapping but I'll leave that up to you all when you see it.

In the meantime, high school has a lot of homework and I have other things to do so I'll see if I can get in some ingame shots (I might just go with WB). Now why did I post this? Not sure, just wanted to let you know I'm working on a forest map that hopefully you'll enjoy when it's finished. So here's what I'm thinking right now: The Old Forest is supposed to be dense (full of trees and therefore a lot of objects) so the main concern I have with this is lag. That might become more apparant when I post pictures. Also, I made an ini so most units can stealth... but nobody really likes skirmish maps with extensive inis so I might just make two versions. But either way, both will have Old Man Willow.

I guess that's enough for now. :)

You know you don't have to add a lot of trees to make a convincing forest. Enlarging the trees by a considerable amount is a necessity, but you might also want to consider having parts where the trees are on higher ground, and the forest floor takes up most of the space.

sounds pretty legit.

The way you make a forest look better and with less trees, is instead of having every tree equally far part, have groups of 3 or 4 trees close together, because that way it looks more convincing for some reason, easier for gameflow, and and uses less trees which makes the maps run faster.

We should do shifts.

Keep us tuned in Linky, we're still watching. But on teh' advice end... erm... I'll let you do it your way and we'll see what needs to be said, but I know of a wind modulator in WB that you could use if you're interested. Swaying trees and all. Never see people put in visual wind activity in maps, so that could be interesting.

Well it took me a while and it's still not finished, but for those of you interested here are some WB screenies. Anyways, I obviously have way too many trees but I will fix that later (the count was 533) Sorry about the picture size; forgot to resize them before I uploaded them

So here you have it, first off, the border of Buckland

Ah yes, just a little side note, I kind of based this map off from the Lord of the Rings online game (Play it, it's free now ;) or not ;))
Let's see, is that all? I think so, other than Happy (late) Thanksgiving
But seriously, what do you all think?

Well crap Linky... I was really ready to roll my eyes and sigh, but that is honestly a fine piece of work. The realism in the textures and environment, the character you put into the map, and the liveliness of your civilian environment. You've improved vastly.

Aye, lovely work :)

Though i wouldn't have thought there are too many trees. In fact, i'd probably like to see more, especially considering it's an Old Forest map. I think most people can handle the object count these days :p
