Okay, so, these 3 guys need a place to stay, so they decide to stay at a hotel. It's $30.00 for one room for one night. So, naturally they each pitch in $10.00. There's a problem with the room though. It only has two beds. So the manager gives them a rollout bed. Now the manager feels bad because the room didn't have enough beds. He decides to give $5.00 back. So he gives it to the bellhop to take to them. On his way to the room, the bellhop can't figure out how to divide 5 into 3 equally, so he sticks $2.00 in his pocket and gives the guys the other $3.00.

Now, they each paid $9.00 right?
3 x 9 = 27
Add the 2 that the bellhop kept and you get $29.00.

Where's the other dollar?

What do you mean, where's the other dollar?

30 dollars for room
5 dollars back
Bellhop keeps 2
Bellhop gives 3

25+3+2=30

Thanks, you did great. :ninja:

You ruined all my fun. I was hoping to get someone say something like, "Wow that's doesn't make sense". But you didn't fall for the trick, so congratulations I guess.

It's a clever play on logic, that makes you think you should add $2, when you should actually be subtracting it. Because the bellhop takes away $2, you should actually add negative 2 dollars to the $27 the guys paid.

I.e. 27 (the amount the guys paid) + (-2) (the amount the bellhop subtracted from the amount paid) = 25 (the total amount paid to the hotel)

If you want to get more detailed:
  • 3x10 = 30
  • Therefore (3+3+3+3+3+3+3+3+3+3) = 25+3+2
  • 3x9=25+2 (subtract 3 from both sides)
  • Therefore (3x9)-2 = 25 (subtract 2 from both sides)
    OR
  • (3x9)+2 = 25+2+2 = 29 (add 2 to both sides).
The trick is that you assume it should add up to 30, when it should in fact add up to 25.

Here's a good one:

Another one:

A guy had a hotel with 11 single rooms, but a group of 12 people wanted to stay at his hotel, each in his own room. Fortunately, the guy was smart. This is what he did: He sent the first guest into room 1 and asked the last to stay in the same room for a few minutes, until he had arranged everything. Thus he had already taken care of two guests temporarily. After that he sent the third guest into room number 2, the fourth into room number 3, the fifth into room number 4, and so on. After the eleventh guest had taken room number 10, he called out the twelfth guest from room number 1 and gave him his last room, number 11. In the end, everyone was happy :ninja:

Here's a good one:

The fuck.
It has been reported that some victims of rape, during the act, would retreat into a fantasy world from which they could not WAKE UP. In this catatonic state, the victim lived in a world just like their normal one, except they weren't being raped. The only way that they realized they needed to WAKE UP was a note they found in their fantasy world. It would tell them about their condition, and tell them to WAKE UP. Even then, it would often take months until they were ready to discard their fantasy world and PLEASE WAKE UP

I saw Ganon's right away, Haldir's was pretty neat, and barely made sense :ninja:

Phil however, I thought you were joking. Good show

Yeah, Phil, your riddle is missing the second guest. I figured out Gannon's easily enough, and Haldir's made complete sense. Here's mine:

A dozen royals gathered round,
entertained by two who clowned.
Each king had servants ten,
though none of them were also men.
The lowest servant sometimes might
defeat the king in a fair fight.
A weapon stout, a priceless jewel,
the beat of life, a farmer's tool.

What is it (the entire riddle, not the last line) referring to?

I guess mine was worded a little differently so that it was less obvious in the original. It's hard to remember that off the top of one's head though.

A game of cards? Or a deck of cards? If it's a specific card-game then I don't know, because I don't know any card-games. :ninja:
